What tranny for a 85?

What tranny for a 85?

I'm doing a 5-speed swao and I'm not sure what tranny/t-case I need to find. I found one out of an 88(w56?) What should I be looking for? I appreciate the help.

You have a 22RE right?

R151F out of a turbo would be the ideal tranny. Kinda hard to find though

Easier would be the w-searies because it will bolt right up same with the r151f but like stated they are hard to find and not cheap. you could also go with the r150f and get the marlin adapter but in the end the cost would be pretty high up there just like the r151f. Ide probably say w-series. What do you do with this rig? wheel, DD, both?

I thought Marlin's adapter was for the 2RZ and 3RZ - do they have the same pattern as the 22RE?

Crap ya i think your right about that for some reason i was thinking it was for the earlier 22's aswell. However arent the new motors basicly like the old as for as bolt patters go? Just like how the 3.0 and 3.4 are the same the newer modle 4clys i think have the same patern also making it posible to mate the r-series to the old not just the new

Well, the 3.0 (3VZ-E) and the 3.4 (5VZ-FE) are the same block - that's why everything is interchangeable.

The 2.4 (22R-E) is a totally different block than the 2.7's (2RZ-FE and 3RZ-FE). Bolt pattern could be the same, but it's not as likely as it is with the two v6's
