I have used it and it seemed to work alright. I did a motor swap and had to low of octane for the new motor so I added some and the pinging stopped, for the price of it i wouldn't use it all the time. I would just buy higher octane gas at the pump. My .02

Technically most of them do actually bring up the octane rating a slight bit, but its not worth the hassle, just pump in premium if you really want higher octane gas although with a Yota I highly doubt you need it.

If you truly had a high-compression high-performance engine with say about $10k invested in it would you trust an octane booster or would you run the absolute best fuel you could, even if that was avgas?

Most octane boosters contain MMT. This chemical is not recommended for use by Toyota, as indicated in a 99 4Runner Owners Manual.
