tranny swap, manual or auto
i currently have an auto tranny on my 3.0 v6. my tranny is basically being held together by the sludge inside it. i basically have to options, i found a used auto for 850, or my boss has a 5 speed for 500. does anybody have any info about the manual swap that i should know about? cuz im pretty much set on the stick.

getting all your wires and ☺☺☺☺e out from the auto and plumbing everything for the manual is tough work. Very drawn out. Just my opinion!
I like the auto, personally. I definitely need to get some crawler gears though.

in the transfer case you have 2.28 gears. You can get 4, 4.7, 5, or 5.1 gearsets (basically like changing your ring and pinion but only in 4lo). For the auto you need an inchwormgear.com adapter and then you can use a manual tcase and get the gearset.

you can, I just meant that - I've had both and I prefer the auto...it just needs to have a lower crawl. With the auto I can get right up to an obsticle and hit the gas. There was a lot more - finess - needed with the manual so the clutch didn't burn up.

You can't change the tcase gears in V6 transfer cases - they're planetary reduction and chain drive. You can put a crawler behind either tranny, but there are more optons for the manual.
As for your swap, search for a thread started by "Schooler" - she did it, and has a pretty detailed thread about what all she had to fo to get tit ot work right.

im not sure what the difference in a tranny swap is from 1st to 2nd gen, but i did the swap in my 85 runner in a day. one of the easiest projects ive done. just get the clucth pedal and drill some holes in the firewall for the clutch master and thats the hardest part. youll also need the line from the clutch master to the slave cylinder. either way its worth it. it cant be much harder on the 3.0.
