Tips & tricks to winning mud bog drag comps?
#44
I think if I had the right idea how to properly get my RPM's up without letting the trans slam into gear upon shifting in I would have been good to go on a Sunday win also. I was worried about killing the torque converter by revving up in neutral then shifting in being I have an auto trans. Also I tweeked my idle speed up a hair assuming it would assist me off the line but it killed me. Had it at 800 on Saturday when I got my wins then a grand on Sunday. Wierd.

i assume your tires are 12.5" wide?? if so, too bad you can only really go down to 12-15 psi before your tires spin on the rims and you will need them re-balanced.

I don't know where you got the idea that 12-15 was as low as you can go. On a street tire perhaps. But on a mud tire, like swamper or Irok, you can take it down to a few pounds. 6-8 pounds is more likely where you want to be.
Tire speed is the key (that's where I suck with 40" IROKs and a wimpy motor), but so is momentum. Once you stop, don't spin tires. If the rules allow you to back up, do so quickly and go back far enough to get a good head of speed up again.
If you can, climb up on the sides and get out of the ruts. Unless you are running the bigger tires in the crowd, the ruts will kill you. get up on top.
Most important - have a blast!
