I would try without the jerk to start and if he did need a jerk, I would start with one a lot more gentle than that! Personally, I prefer to not pull in reverse. I am not sure how the straps are hooked up but the excess hanging there probably isn't a good thing. However, people are out of the way, so that is good. Other than throwing a blanket or jacket on the strap, seems ok.

That brings back memories of my buddy who stuck his Z71 and I broke my winch cable trying to retrieve him. I snatched much harder than the guy in that video.
When it was all said and done, his engine was no longer under water and he was thankful!

Thats why its called a SNATCH strap. It stretches then recoils for extra power.
He should have tried to just tug first, but if you have a good strap and good hooks, that is the only way to unstuck people from the mud sometimes (w/o winch).
I have done it a lot with no problems.

Exactly. And yes, waaaaayy too much slack in the strap. Ideally there should be enough slack so the lowest point of the strap between the two vehicles is just an inch or so off the ground. Also, be sure the strap is compeltely dry before you put it away until your next run.

sometimes snatching is the only option, and if it was in that case, no problem with that, as long as the recovery points are solid, and the strap is solid.
but a winch sure does make everything a lot easier.

any other vehicle and there prolly would've been some serious damage, but the SFA Toy p/u is one tough mofo, and light. All the idiot had to do was air down and throw a few of those rocks in the bed for some weight over the rear axle, then he probably could've crawled right outta there instead of doing the slamma jamma wheelspin thing.

It looked fine to me- the strap was likely anchored to the trailer hitch or tow hook underneath. As mentioned above, the strap absorbs most of the shock, just like a rubber band. You wouldn't want to use a tow strap, which is meant for static pulling, for the same sort of tug, since they aren't meant to handle shock loads. Having a front sold axle is irrelevant.

If you're refering to my last post, I was talking about the other video posted in this thread (post #10), not the recovery video in the first post.

Also, recovery straps do not have an infinite life span. After a yank like that one you should carefully inspect your strap as it will fatigue over time. Some straps have different colored threads in them that when they show through it indicates the strap should be replaced.
Otherwise, this is a perfectly acceptable means of recovery assuming that lesser attempts failed.
