plus a ton of others
you need to have a good battery (more likely duals) etc...lots of good resources out there...your winch should have also come with some directions.

It is a very high amp draw motor....

Don't run the winch unless your truck is RUNNING! You need the alternator going to recharge the battery.

Second, a big battery will help, but really it's the alternator that comes up short since it doesn't put out very much at idle. You may have to hold the RPM at 2,000 if you are doing hard pulls.

have the engine running, and to keep those rpms up without having to pop the hood/have someone in the seat, ive seen people put in a second throttle cable, and run it to a bicycle speed shifter to set the throttle at a certain rpm. usually 2000 to 2500. then run the winch

Winch Rope is made from one of two types of rope. Either Amsteel Blue or, my favorite, Tech-12. The Tech-12 is very heat resistant. I have found on ebay.

Then you splice in your own eyes http://www.samsonrope.com/site_files/12S_C2_EyeSpl.pdf using these http://www.jamestowndistributors.com...+Aluminum+Fids

All I can say is if it killed your battery in 30 seconds you must have a tiny battery.

What kind of pull where you making?

I winch with the truck shut off now and again.

I have also used the 9.5 ti just from a battery this pulling a 5000 pond truck on the level in the shop.

I also use #1 welding cable for winch power
