Is it possible to put a 4cyl 3rd member in a V6 housing?

Hello,

I've a friend with a Prado that has broken his rear diff.

I'll receive my 89' solid axle next week and I'm putting an elocker in the rear with new gearsets.

As he needs gears and I'm pulling out mines I'd like to be able to give them to him fast so he can drive his truck. It's not possible to me to have my new gears here next week but I'm thinking another thing...

Can I just put the SA 3rd in my rear axle to be able to drive my truck 'till I have the new gears and put the elocker on? I think so but I'd like to confirm to not waste my friend's time.

Also, as Prado's frame and suspensions are quite identical to 4th Gen 4Runners, do they use 8'' diffs as the other generations?

Thanks,

David

Hello again,

My friend has been looking at the ARB locker's sheet and the ARB locker for my 4Runner and for a Prado is the same, so the diff's are the same.

Now I've just to confirm that the 4cyl 3rd works on my axle.

I think the 4th gen's use the 8.4" rear end.. so it probally wont work...

But the 4cyl 3rd will work on the older non elocker 8" axle...

Open 8" diffs are exchanable.

The 4th Gens have an 8" diff as far as I know.

Prados too. 8'' diff and 4.10 ratio in a 3.0 D4D KDJ-120, same as stock in my 4Runner 3.0TD.

I'll be putting the Hilux 4cyl 4.56 open diff in till I'll have the elocker ready to go. Let's see how the truck handles with 4.56's and 31's. Note that a 3.0TD with 4.56's and 31's is like a V6 with 4.88's and 31's hehehe

A little more money for the SAS pig. I'm beginning to sell the front diff, CV's, Aisins and so too.

only diff between the 4cyl and 6cyl diffs is 2 pinion vs 4 pinion and a smaller carrier bearing (which can be adapted). Bolt pattern, splines, etc are all the same.

The pinion is different length and there is a bearing size difference.

Thank you hehehe

I'll selling my gears to him soon and swaping the third on mine.

I've sold all my IFS material (The one I can take out and have the truck running) except for 3 CV's and the front diff+Aussie Locker. My SAS is awaiting hehehe

The Trail Gear people are asking freight costs because the UPS guys want 1600$ just for the shipping of the SAS kit... If not, as Trail Gear are in CA and the Santa Cruz Snowboards/Skateboards/Surf dealer in Spain are friends of mine we will try to add the SAS kit to one of their ship freights.
