Lockright and automatic Tranny

I am ready to step up to a locker and have a quick question:
Will a locker(lock-right or aussie) be too much of a pain as a DD with an automatic transmission. I've read the guys with manuals have very little problem getting used to them on the road becuase they have the ability to use the clutch to help manipulate a lockers dis-engagment, re-engagment.

ps- I drive almost 700to800 miles per week and wheel logging-roads once or twice a week.

I've actually heard that the auto-trannies are MORE locker friendly than manuals. Not exactly sure why, but do a search and it'll come up. I remember reading it a few times awhile back.

Anyway, I have a lockrite and an auto tranny, and don't have any problems, other than the extra play in the driveshaft that causes the truck to "bump" every time I hit the gas. Takes some getting used to.

Once you use it offroad though you'll never want to go back.

.....

I had a detroit in the rear of my 85 3/4 ton chevy and it was a beast to say the least....but it was granny 4speed. I did search a bit and came across nothing mentioning lockers and automatic tranny's in relationship to one another. I'm not going to worry about it anymore, I'm ordering an aussie Monday

Yeah I wouldnt worry about it. When I posted here about getting one for my truck I remember seeing alot of responses from guys that have them with auto trannies.
Are you going to install it yourself? It's really actually quite easy with at least 1 other person there to help.
Good luck!

Yes, I am going to install it myself. I would like to think I have rather good mechanical skills, and should be able to figure it out no problem. Of course there are always times when I think I've been overconfident. I hope it doesn't happen with this install. Anyhow thanks for the replies and I'll post up when I start the install. I've heard aussie's directions are great so that had a lot to do with persuading me into their product rather than the lock-right. Oh and Bill Cole has given me some awesome feedback and really quick responses. Aussie seems like a great company with great people.

An automatic will be nicer to drive with a locker than a manual. With a stick, the locker will unlock and lock almost every time you shift, and can exhibit some locker steer. This isnt always the case, but usually it happens more often than not. An automatic will shift fluidly and the locker wont unlock between shifts, so it will handle more predictably most of the time. Hope that helps

I knew someone here had the answer
Unfortunatley, I do get locker steer even with my auto. Whenever I come to a stop (or even just slow down to 5 mph) and hit the gas, the truck pulls to either side for a second then straightens itself out.

Nothing I can't live with, I guess it'd be worse with a manual

Like i said, it just wont unlock between every shift. You can still get locker steer, even with the smoothest auto's. The question is, do you get it between every shift

Wink spool

Go with a spool. No locker steer at all. Smooth as silk!
