Leaking airlock ..

Hi guys !

I have a leaking airlocker in my rear diff, I pulled it out today, but did not see anything wrong with the plumbing, and found out that the air is leaking from somewhwere inside.

I don't know the name of the locker, hopefully some of you can tell me something about it. And also tell me what I can do to fix it, and if I should be able to do it myself Spare parts might be needed ?

ARB makes the only Air Locker I know of for the Toyota differentials. You might try contacting ARB and see if they can help diagnose your problem. I think there is a large o-ring inside that can be the cause of the leak.

Give Tim Lund a call at ARB Tech Dept. (206) 264-1669

you have an O-ring leak, hard to say which one, unless it's taken apart.

Taking the ARB apart and installing the o-ring is no big deal - upon re-assembly you should either purchase new bolts (with what appears to be sealant on the threads, or use blue locktight on the used and cleaned bolts - I use locktight myself. While you're in there inspect that piston, it's a plastic tower like piece that engages the locker. It shouldn't have any "major" breaks in it. One or two small breaks shouldn't interfere with the lockup operation but as long as you're in there you can replace it if you find any breaks.

When you're looking at the o-ring, make sure you also take a peek at the copper hard line on the diff (inside) and make sure your R&P didn't wear a hole in it... I had that happen to me.

Mine was leaking in the same place. You'll have to take the locker apart and replace the internal seal. After replacement, gear backlash will need to be reset. I took my entire 3rd member to ARB in Seattle and they did it all for me, free of charge.

3rd member

... I pulled out the 3rd member last weekend, took me only 2.5 hours, so that wasn't a big deal.

On monday I took it to the ARB seller here in Iceland, and their shop wanted over $400 for the repair.. Meaning replacing the inner seal.

Think that is just too much, so I took it to a truck mod shop, that is experienced in this stuff, and they are doing it now for less. I'm supposed to pick it up tomorrow.

Now it is working :)

I installed the thirdmember on friday, and I can say that i works 100% now

Total cost was around $400.

Next operation is to try to replace rust on the rear right fender, above the exhaust. Don't know how I will do that, have not found any replacement parts, so I might have to cut a big part of the fender out and fabricate a new fender..

Never done this though.. trying to do some research on the matter
