a couple of questions

Hey everyone...im new postin here.

I have a 04 4Runner SR5 4WD and im just looking for some good mods to do to it. Like lifting and wheels.

With the lift ive read all of the posts so i know that the two for the 04 4Runner are daystar and revtek. so im gonna get one of those. any advice on which one would be better or if you do know of any better ones? also how can u tell if you have XREAS (im not very knowledgable with cars)

My real question is what are some good tires to get. I live in maryland so there arnt that many hills, rocks, or anything of that sort here, so yeah. I dont have the largest budget ever, so im lookin for some good, inexpensive tires.

Also, ive never read about anyone here beeing anywhere east of the rockies, but does anyone know of any good offroading places near Washington DC

Thanks
-Toast

PS im kindof a noob into off roading so if you could try to keep it as simple as possible that would be great

Welcome!

I don't own a 4th gen, or even a 4runner for that matter, but there are a few members here that have some REALLY nice modified 4th gens. Rocky, Goodtimes, Firstoy, 4runnabilly are just a few that come to mind. I'm sure they'll chime in.
Also, if you type "4th gen tires" or something into the search you're bound to come across something. Lots of info on that subject.

I recommend doing a search for 4th gen or any of those members listed above, especially 4runnabilly. I think he's got the most modded 4th gen of all of them. Plenty of tech too. Rocky did a complete writeup of a suspension lift install, so you might wanna check that out too.

Do a search... you'll be reading for days.

4x4?
I'd check autotrader.com. If you're looking for something cheaper than normal, you're best bet is probably to go through a private seller.

Yeah, look right here: http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/
There is a Jeep Cherokee and a Nissan Pathfinder - either one for less than $2000 in the For Sale section. Good luck.

hey if your still looking for a good offroad tire for cheap check out dunlop radial muds on tirerack.com. if you want something more aggressive, (larger lugs better off road but not so much on pavement) check out super swamper LTB at offroad toystore. just do a search for offroad toystore, i'm not sure if that's the internet address or not. good luck on finding a cheap 4x4.

by far the cheapest, buildable 4x4 on the market right now is...............
.

.
:pat: an older Jeep Cherokee

seriously, if you want to buy something to just thrash, the XJ's w/ a EFI 4.0L six are selling for next to nothing. Certain models can be found w/ a D44 rear, are already straight axle front, and there are literally 100's of existing products available for'm. For hard core use, they need a set of uni-body stiffeners installed- they also serve as pretty good under body protection too.

I've wheel'd w/ a couple of'm, they do just fine w/ only a couple K of mods..........prolly less than 5K total including vehicle, lockers and tires.

Toast:

Welcome aboard! First off you have the SR5 model so you don't have XREAS unless it was an option but from what I can remember it's not an option you can have for this model.

There are 3 lift companies out there selling stuff right now for your 4runner (non xreas).

Daystar and Revtek - spacer technology
Downey - coil/shock technology.

Daystar has a 2.5" spacer lift which is the cheapest at around $250
Revtek has a 3" spacer lift which comes w/ a rear shock selling for around $450
Downey has a front coilover system and rear shock/coil for (not sure how much but it's not cheap).

Tires... welp Revo's are highly recommended by alot of people so you might want to look into them (mild offroadin tires that does real well on road).

XJ = Jeep. IF you want something cheap, jeep is the way to go or get a toyota mini or a hold tacoma

Good luck

Ok...im gonna define my problem for all yall Ok im in highschool...I have and 04 4Runner SR5 (payed for half...my parents the other half). Now I want to take that 4Runner and get it lifted, bigger wheels, you know the whole works...but my parents dont want me doing that to a brand new car... So, im saving up again, and im just trying to find a good cheap 4x4 to mod and go offroading in, preferbly it would be a Toyota, but hey, cant win em all. So any ideas where i can find a REALLY cheap Toyota (one condition it has to run )
Thx yall
