Companion nut flange trouble....

The victim: pre-84 carrier with 4.37's

The companion flange nut (that 30mm thing that holds the flage onto the carrier where the driveshaft bolts to) is on there GOOD. I successfully removed 2 others (one from my 7.5" rear axle and the other from the 8" rear with 3.07 gears), but the one that Really matters on the pre-84 carrier I can't get it loose for the life of me.
One possible option I have not tried, put it back into my axle, chock the tires and use the gears/tires as "back pressure".
I don't feel comfortable doing this though. I'd like my gears to last at least a little while
Thanks for any input of how to get this thing off short of cutting!
Todd

- I'll take it to a machine shop before I cut.......maybe -

I wish. No air (comprssor that is).
I'm going to try chocking the wheels and using a LONG breaker bar on it this weekend. I'll see how that works.
Thanks!

You can rent an electric impact wrench. I did the long breaker bar, parking brake on trick as well. It worked, but the impact wrench is easier....

I found a guy in Milton that has a little tool store in his garage. His prices were awesome. He had a few small aircompressor system, 20 gallon tank, for $139. His sign says all prices are flexibile. He knocks about 20% off the listed price of everything.

If yo ulive near Milton, let me know and I'll get you his info. He has metal chop saws for $45!

I use a copy of the Toyota SST to hold the flange still (2x3/16" flat bar w/ 2 holes to line up with the flange bolts):

Then let the bar rest against the frame and use a piece of pipe over a breaker bar to remove the nut. I tried 2 different 1/2" impact guns on mine and neither would budge the nut.
