Body lift question: bumper

Body lift question: bumper
I am about to install a R.B. 1" body lift on my 98' 4runner. Is it absolutely neccesary to remove the front bumper to put the blocks in? I will install the bumper brackets next week, just don't feel like it today.

I installed a body lift on my 3rd gen, but its a 2000 so its got the "fat lip" bumper. It may be possible to install the blocks with the bumper on, but from my experience it would be a lot easier and make more sense to do it all together.

Yeah, the prefabbed adaptors, extenders really save time. I used the steering shaft extension and radiator drop brackets from 4Crawler. yellowspeedracer, got any details on how you extended your fuel lines? It seems like I'd have to drop my tank to get to two of the vent lines.
Deleware & mailry, check this post out. It's not a comprehensive "how-to" but it highlights some of the problems I had...

It wasn't that bad putting on the 1". I did it myself and took my time. However, when I put a 3" body lift on my old 4runner I ran into all kinds of problems. I actually put the bumper drop brackets on this time and then realized that I wouldn't be able to fit my brush guard on! So I had to pull those off and leave a small gap. Brush guard covers it though.

I just did the 1" and really don't think that the radiator, fuel lines stuff is needed. I also did mine alone in about 3 hrs.
One thing I would suggest is to spray every bolt down with some JB80 or WD40 type stuff to help out a day prior. The front mounts were really tight and a bit rusted.

I will add this to the thread. I just installed a 3 inch BL on my 94 pickup. It took 2 days
to install. I think the biggest issues were poor quality hardware that came with the kit and very generic instructions. I had a trailmaster kit. If I had it to do over again I would buy a kit from 4crawler. I did have enough sense to print out 4crawlers instructions for his lift. That helped alot. Some of the issues I ran into were a rusted bolt on the end of the front bumper, exteneding the gas filler tube, cutting the floor for the shifter. All these issues were addressed in 4crawlers instructions. They were barely mentioned in the kit instructions. Make sure you have a way to deal with bolts that may need cut out, prepared with the proper tools to cut out your floor for the shifter, and hope the new hardware was better than what I got.
Read 4crawlers instructions and print them out.
read the kit instructions.
read as many of the threads here about BL's.
again this was for 3 inches not a 1 inch kit.
I am not saying don't do it. Just be prepared as best you can and allow for
extra time when doing the lift incase you hit a snag. I always hit snags!!!!!
Good luck
