Beef up the IFS or SAS?

ok, eventually i plan on putting 37's on it, a lift (DUH), new gears, and lockers. not for some time though, doesnt hurt to plan ahead and see how long ill be eating noodles for, does it? . so my question is... when i decide to lift and put 37s on there, should i strengthen up the IFS, or should i throw a solid axle under there? gears i could get from... wabfab? i dunno, wheres a good place to buy gears? and as far as the locker, why does everyone prefer the ARB airlocker over the Elocker? i mean, whats the difference besides the obvious one? thanks everyone!!\

Likely need a solid axle for 37s. Seems many folks start running into IFS issues w/ 35s. Gears, pick your vendor, I had Marlin in Fresno build my front and rear 3rds w/ ARBs in them, have worked fine for 8 years now. Never used an elocker, but I like the ARBs and since I had on board air already, it was easy to hook them into thait air source. Elocker might be nicer if you have no air source or don't plan to add one as you save the cost of the ARB compressor.

If you plan to offroad alot, an SAS swap would be a good idea, but if you just want a bigger truck that you will drive on the street mostly, the IFS would be just fine, even for some mud running or mild offroad. I have installed and modified lifts on IFS as much as 8" with 42's. The only real problems are stress on the driveshafts and a "not so comfortable ride". It looks good, and the ride is not really worse than an older solid axle truck.

i would eventually do a sas cause you can fit 37s with a 4inch lift and keep the center of gravity low

Hahaha...
How long you'll be eating noodles for. that's classic. If my sig line wasn't full, I'd put that in.

37s will kill an IFS.

I run 39.5/13.50/15 Iroks on 15x8 steelies...now they are beadlocked but I did wheel it that way a few times with no problems.

Why does everyone say that? I run 37's on my IFS. 37x12.5x15 on AR 15x10 rims. CV's are not at an extreme angle and the ride isn't too terribly stiff. I'm not being an ass, I'm really curious what problems I should be looking out for.

Let me rephrase.

Wheeling 37s on a stock IFS will kill it.

Malling 37s on a stock IFS will be bling.

Okay, well I think the PO had it set up as a beach machine. Dual shocks and such with very little flex. It looks okay but it's not that functional. It is a daily driver but I don't drive it very much just because of I have a car which is much cheaper on gas. I'd love to be able to start wheeling it some so what are your suggestions for a more practical setup without going SAS. I don't mind dropping to 35's but what should I do to gain some more flex? I realize I'll also need gears and possibly a lock right locker in the rear but all that can come down the road. Right now I'd just like to start looking at my options.

I'm assuming you want 37's because you want to wheel hardcore stuff. If so, you need to skip the intermediate steps and do it right the first time.

Go with D60's (or other 1 ton axles), full width. Get the stance LOW and WIDE.

Dual cases, armor all around. Minimal body, etc.

That's great. This thread has me thinking about cleaning out my sig so I can put some of these great one liners in there.
