4" with Hi-Steer???
hey guys...im piecing a lift kit for 80 toy and was wondering if i was to throw the 4" lift springs i have along w/ some 33' will i need to do the brake lines, gears, hi steer and all that good stuff at the same time...i was planning on waiting but i just want it up now....and is 33's w/ a 4" lift wierd or should i be running 35's???

Can probably make it work stock, brake lines will either need to be extended up front or at least relocate the hard line brackets. The overall package won't work really well until to do the rest of the mods (gears, steering,etc.).

It will work. Of course if you have to do the brake lines do them its cheap/free.
33's are way small, Im running 37's on less than 4" and plan to go to a 38 or 39"
But I do wheel with a guy who went with a 4" lift....then gears...then Hi-steer...then 33''s....duals. I always encourage this type of building because not only does it make you a better driver but it allows you to see and experiance the differences each mod makes. If you want to talk to him he is tonyota on Ih8mud.com

Well, you need the lift first, otherwise no way to fit the taller tires nor to fit the crossover steering in there (it takes 3"-4" to clear the frame and springs). On my '85, I did lift+tires+gears+lockers in the first round then crossover steering later.

what i really want to do is run 35's but i cant afford to do my gears for another month or so which is why i was thinking about just getting 33's...i have the lift springs and the tires on the way. so you think if i can plug out the money for lockers and gears along w/ what i have i can live w/o crossover for a little while(couple months)???

i think i might just wait...i went wheelin yesterday it walked all over the stuff my jeep got stuck int or had trouble with...very impressed....oh..and is the 8" rear end a posi...cuz i noticed the rears would be posi quite a bit and i know it doesnt have a locker cuz it doesnt act like it on the road!

If the rear hasnt been touched then it is open. You should be able to run 35s with the stock 4.10 gears. wont be an animal but it will work. I just got done doing my cross over steering. havnt taken it out yet, but I wheeled with the old push pull box for a while and it worked, I bent the bar a couple of times, but no big deal. With the crossover you can eventually add hydro assist 2.

Short for hydraulic assist, basically tap into the power steering box for high pressure fluid and feed that into a hydraulic ram attached between the axle housing and the tie rod:

Basically lets you spin the steering wheel with the palm of your hand at any time, moving, stopped, on or off road, in the biggest rocks, makes no difference. More info:

and if you are talking about a 4" lift from say superlift or procrap, this is a more true 4" lift than what 4rnr has (marlin 4" SAS is more like 5 or 6" lift). You can fit hi-steer with that fine. To fit 35's with that lift, maybe go a little longer shackle. And brake lines will be a must.

yes 35x12.50's will work on 15x8's. I am running 33x15's on 15x8's. my guess it that it is probably one of the most common combinations...
I would just recommend you keep on eye on the junkyard brake lines...
