ive been looking into the t-maxx for a while and was wondering if its best to get one brand new or get a used one that is fixed up a little bit ???? i know the brand new ones have a lot of plastic parts that may break easily, as opposed to a used one that has been kind of broken in with a lot of ugrades.

 

They are not that expensive. Personally I would go with a new one and start modding it yourself. Break it and fix it, and do it all over again. That's how you learn, gain experience and have a lot of fun.

Everyone I know did it this way, especially since you can never quite trust used ones and since only a medium amount of money is involved, why not?

 

Yep. Difficult decision. Sometimes you can find a used nitro with many upgrades well below what it would cost you. Finding the right one is nice. There's so many beat one's being advertised as something good. A very desricptive item and many pics is essential to find something descent.

 

I own the T-Maxx. It's great, however I also own the HPI Savage and a Losi Mini-T
IMO the HPI SAVAGE is the most durable, and by far the most fun to drive. Both are supported by a large aftermarket so you can upgrade untill your bank account is broke.

I have an HPI Nitro savage, an I love it! Before this truck i had an E-maxx (same basic frame and suspention as the T-maxx) and IMO the savage is much stronger. The key to the savage frame is the aluminium TVP (twin vertical plates) that hold everything togeter. The savage also uses the same wheels and tires and bodies as the T-maxx. As far as upgrades, the market is flooded for both trucks.

THe Revo was the T-max upgrade/revamp. Dont know if its all that much better than the tmax, but it does mean you can get some good deals on the T-max.

I bough mine used, with a few mods and have contiuned to add aftermarket stuff to it.

If i had to do again i would go used, best bang for the buck.

 

The Revo, which certainly should be mentioned, is an entirely different truck than the t-maxx. The only thing the t-maxx and the revo share would be the motor...that's it as far as handling goes, the revo handles much better in the air. The t-max would make a slightly better basher, as the parts are cheaper and more available.
If I were you id go w/ HPI savage, and don't look back at Traxxus.

 

what has been done to the t-maxx? upgrades etc...

the cheapest place online has them for $360.00 so i think im might go used and upgrade the upgraded ... still thinking about it

 

Pick up a copy of RC car action mag, I have seen the T-maxx for $329.00. Stormer hobbies i think it was.

 

i froogled the t-maxx and the cheapest price that came up was $369 shipped , thanks for your input guys

 

I'll get you my spec list soon. Off the top of my head:
My-Tmaxx has a JR aftermarket radio,
trinity 6 cell battery pack, hpi savage wheels and tires, brand new carb,
Imex Pipe, and full RPM skidplates.

revo uses a laydown type suspension. the arms are connected via a rod to a rocker arm which are then connected to the shocks.

the shocks laydown flat.

so you can get medium to long travel setup.

slightly faster than the tmaxx using the same 2.5 motor.

doesnt use a flat chassis like everyone, but a monocoque one.

 

I had a Savage before, my buddy bought the t-maxx... the savage was way better. The t-maxx's engine is REALLY finicky unlike the larger torquier savage. He sold that and got a 4WD buggy... trust me, get a buggy with a larger engine .21+.... the buggies frikin rock... the big 4X's aren't all that... and yes they break and break a lot.

 

Dont get me wrong i LOVE my buggy but ive got an Hyper .21 8 port on it and its the most PITA engine ive ever had. ONCE i getting running its got GOBS and GOBS of power which really makes you wish your buggy was a 2 speed but still doesnt take a the off road stuff like my tmax does.

For a beginner id go a used second gen tmax and put a diffrent motor in it. (the chances the used motor is good anyway is slim to none and slim just left town)

as for Savage vs T-max/Revo thats like jeep vs Toyota or Ford vs Chevy...

 

savage = jeep

revo = toyota...

 

Check out Traxxas' website, they have video of most of their models in action.
They do a backflip with a Revo over like a 40 ft gap!

I have jumped my Revo off of a 10 ft tall gravel pile to flat ground repeatedly and nothing broke.

 

i had an old nitro hawk and loved it but this was like 8 years ago or so. went to the hobby store the other day to check out helicpoters and they had this custom built monster 4x4 with disc brakes (or maby 4wheel braking) 4wheel steering and some gigantor motor in it that put out more than a goped my roomate said. thing would rip to 70 on pavement acording to the guy

 

I have a friend coming to buy my t-max w/ controllers for 150.00 bucks...man I wish I didn't need the gas money.

 

Snap on, what is that buggy? 4wd? I have an Associated elctric RC10T I picked it up bareley used for 180 it was a good deal, so I snagged it. I have always wanted a nitro 4wd though
