Totally opposite of rock crawling, but you can go much faster.
I have been reading on that Losi MRC section at the forum above that some are even getting leaky shocks right out of the box.
Losi has nice replacements, but something out of the box even if it is a RTR (ready to run) should have no defects with it.

It too has the 2.4 GHz radio system which is superior to the other types out there.
And it has aluminum shocks, not plastic like the rock crawler model.

i think my one way bearing is shot, but you know that driveshaft that the pullstart bearing goes onto, if i rotate that, should the piston inside move to? or anything else?

After doing some reading up more on the Losi Mini Rock Crawler and how the factory plastic shocks have leaked on some, and server/motor trouble, I was going to get the 1/18 Mini-LST2 Monster Truck I linked above, but I saw a different one in the store that uses the newer lipo battery technology which is better than the other style batteries.
It is called the Losi 1/18 Mini-Monster Baja.
http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...rodID=LOSB0218

I picked it up, but they were out of extra Losi lipo batteries for it, so they are going to order some in.
It is always nice to have extra batteries fully charged since charging these things can take a good ninety minutes or more as I have found out with my helicopter.

Also I think this is the best choice for me, as there are not to many places here at home to use the rock crawler.
There is however lots of open space to run the faster baja unit.

This uses aluminum oil filled shocks like the LST-2, so they do not have a tendency to leak like the rock crawler one.

Here is a pic of the chassis from the hobby shop that imports these in.

Here are a few pics of it showing the helicopter on top of it and next to it and the transmitters.

Found some YouTube videos of it.

I can tell you it is very fast, as I test it in my living room, and it got away from me
I am taking it outside right now to test.

I am hoping to see some other body styles for it too such as buggies and even possibly an FJ Cruiser

Here are the specs on this unit.
1/18 Mini-Monster Baja RTR

The Mini-Monster Baja brings the style and performance of the 1/8-scale Mega Baja down to an electric 1/18-scale, offering a whole new experience in the Mini category. Designed and modeled after Losi’s line

of incredible 1/8-scale monster vehicles, it’s more powerful and tougher than any small-scale monster you’ve ever driven.

Featuring a dual-deck aluminum chassis, oversized aluminum oil-filled shocks with threaded adjusters, a 4-wheel drive system with 3 differentials, dual high-torque Frenzy-370 motors, Losi DSM technology

radio and receiver, complete ball bearings and more, it is the ultimate mini vehicle experience.

And Losi takes the power and ease of ready-to-run one step further, by offering the first RTR mini vehicle that includes a LiPo battery and charger. With longer run times and higher speeds than most RTRs out

of the box, the Mini-Monster Baja takes small-scale RC to a whole new level.

I think the LOSI looks like a fun option with plenty of mods.

Check here for tons on info:

I think when budget allows this will be the crawler I get. Pretty cost effective (around $240 for everything) just to get into the hobby and learn the ropes. IMO.

Steve, I almost bought that model, but I passed for two reasons.
Not really any place here to "crawl" with it, and there is a lot of negativity on it over on that forum from what I researched the other day.

See my thread above yours.
Maybe those were isolated incidents I read about, but a few have leaking shocks right out of the box, and server/motors going out the first time they run it.

This little thing I picked up today is ultra fast.
And it climbs too.
I was going over tree roots and curbs with it.
Came over a speed bump really fast, flipped it over, and it righted itself and continued on its way.

I do not see it listed on the Losi sight though, and in a YouTube video, one of the comments people write in said it was discontinued.
I would have to call up Losi to find out why.

The Mini's look real fun.
Don't purchase your battery from the hobby shop. Some online shops sells them much cheaper.
Also...make sure you invest in an upgrade charger. The wall chargers do not condition the batteries.
We have several guys on our airsoft team try and charge their LiPo batteries and they have caught on fire.
I run a Super Brain charger. I can hook it up to my car battery also.
Make sure the charger is LiPo compliant.

Thanks Todd, so that charger above will take care of my lipo batteries?

The charger that came with the helicopter also conditions them, but the charger that came with the car does not.
In fact that charger plugs into the same line on the battery that you hook to the car.

On the helicopter charger, you use a separate line on the battery that hooks to the charger, and not the same line that goes to the toy itself.

I bet the E-flite charger will also charge up the car toy battery, as it says it is good for two and three cell lipos, and from like seven volts up to eighteen I think.

The E-flite charger also has the alligator clips on it to hook to the FJs battery.
Here is the charger that came with the helicopter.
It also has the 110v plug, but it is not shown.
http://www.e-fliterc.com/Products/De...rodID=EFLC3110

They also make a one to five cell one.
http://www.e-fliterc.com/Products/De...ProdID=EFLC505

Would it still be better to get the 989 you listed above?

Not sure how many cell's your truck battery runs. I bet you copter charger would work for the LiPo's. I am using an old Superbrain. I haven't researched other chargers.

The baja racer I just bought uses two cell lipos at the same voltage as the helicopter ones.
Same batteries, just different connectors on them for the toys they belong to.

the chassis started as this...

ended up like this...

Had to make a pretty good size body lift to clear the tires, and they still rubbed a little under full flex...

though I don't have any pictures, I did the ol servo-motor mod; slowed the thing WAAAAYYYY down, but it could crawl up anything the tires would grip!

till I started tearing gears up, lol

ah the good ol days of bloody toes from RC cars, lol

watch eBay if you want em, they'll probably be going up on there soon once I dig them out of the boxes from my recent move...

Absolutely! Nitro fuel has a high alcohol content which draws moisture. I never use fuel more than 6 months old. Get you some new fuel and a new glow plug. Ive got a Nitro Mt as well but mine will do 80+ with the proper body

I am still thinking about the Losi crawler I posted above.
If indeed it comes with leaky shocks, I will get the better ones like that came on my Baja racer.

That Losi crawler just looks cool.

i've seen the losi cralwer at my LHS. kinda cool, but i like the 1/10 rigs better just because..... uh, their bigger?

mine started life as the axial ARTR. losi 'white' springs, tekin FXR ESC, 65t motor, and rubicon body. i finally found the two weak links, the shock body caps pop off (hence the losi shock purchase) and drive shafts. my rear DS is starting to spiral so i got MIP metal shafts ready to install. i have some wheel weights to add, but everything else has been a blast and holding up well. i'm very impressed with the axial.

i've been looking for some taller tires, but the larger ones just don't hook up like the hammers.
