Try posts 3721 (hoses on the back of the intake manifold) and maybe 3724, see if those make sense.

If that's not what you're looking for I'll look a little harder at the engine tomorrow afternoon- it's dark now. You're correct, mine is a 96 sr5 4x.

also here is the pic of my engine w the port I need help with

I believe it's a connector port and it does have suction when u put your finger on it, and what's weird is when I look at some pics online of the 3.4 the port isn't there, so maybe it wasn't used for certain year models..Thanks for your help.

It's still dark now, I'll peek under the hood this morning when I let the dogs out. With those pics I can see exactly what you're looking for and where it's at.
If you look at post #3 on the link you posted, 3rd picture down there is an apparatus, looks like a vsv, with a vacuum hose and a breather- my 96 doesn't have one of those.
Could yours be plenum port to vsv (bottom arrow), with a second vac line (top arrow)?
That bears some looking into...

You've piqued my curiosity, I'd love to know the answer.

Okay, try this https://toyota-usa.epc-data.com/t100...ine/1708/?full
The site is usually slow to load. It's a vacuum diagram for a 96 T100 3.4 engine...I don't think you'll find one of these particular vsv's on a 3.4 4Runner, but I don't know that as fact.

that could be a possibility I don't recall seeing that sensor apparatus w the 2 yellow arrows. Thing is that makes it so weird , nobody seems to know either as of yet it has stumped me. I don't see any hoses around and only reason I reached out to u is, that post u replied to is the only engine I've yet to see w that same port, but it has a factory cap on it. I really am considering putting a cap on it, but would love to know the purpose bc I may need it? I took all the plenums and rail back off just to search for hoses. I'll send this pic of another motor of the area but there is no port in that same area, it's so strange. Here is a google image of the exact same area and look no port but if it helps others to see more of the area that I'm talkn about.

Pictures help so no worries.
Did you look at the vacuum diagram for the 96 T100 that I posted the link to? The port is shown in the diagram along with the vsv also pictured above with the yellow arrow pointing it out.
It's simply for a truck like the 96 t100 etc. with a 3.4 that makes use of the vsv there, Toyota used the 3.4 before the 4Runner.
I don't know exactly what for, something that uses vacuum switching valves that we don't have at that particular spot.

My 96 was built 12/95, there are a few older tech leftovers on it that even some of the newer 96s don't have and this seems to be one.
Cap it, there shouldn't be anything you need it for.

OK I finally was able to get the diagram that u sent & I believe u are absolutely correct. Maybe it was some EGR/VSV stuff. Bc mine was build 11/95 and mine even has the 2 capped hose ports on the throttle body that aren't used in newer models but was used in some older models. I believe it was prob originally capped and the cap was lost or something. I really appreciate it dude bc honestly that's the ONLY diagram I have seen that shows that port. This has been driving me nuts for quite a while now and looks like it's finally over haha. Either way thanks so much and last question, do u know what the factory port cap oem number is or do they even sell them?

I (am) putting a 99 3.4 into my 2nd gen (interesting it was made in 10 of 95). This plenum does NOT have that port.

Is strange but the 3.4 was used in several Toyota models maybe I had a leftover t100 engine

I'll bet Faye's way better versed in all things engine, will have to check her channel out. I just like to tinker with tools and figure things out.

Whoa! Makes me glad I've been able to do those things and put those dollars to new tools and the fun and games parts of the build.

96 4Runner 329,190 miles

Replaced the power steering filter today. Of course I took the old one apart. It's got some gritty junk in the paper and the magnet, nothing too scary and a whole lot less than the last one.
I'd last replaced it Jun 2017 with 290,xxx miles.

Have an appointment for an alignment on the 27th, driving it only a little bit until that gets done.

Did a weird little thing...
Tool from Grandpa's toolbox

Altered a little bit...

Hose clamped to the winch freespool lever, a hole added to the bumper, a 3/8-1/2 adapter and...

more to do, but so far so good
