I will be living in North Dakota when I get my truck, so the EFI would be nice in the mornings. Really, I don't plan on running extreme trails, so the IFS with an idle arm gusset should probably be enough. I move in 6 months, so I plan to get my truck in a little under a year, just doing some research and making plans. What should one of the first mods be after 31's and a locker?

Another question, would a selectable locker be worth the money for driving in ice and snow? Or just go with a regular locker?
Check out the classifieds here, you can find it, there was a well modded 4runner in there for 5k recently I think (it is better than an ext cab anyway, the roof comes off!) I would say, definitely get the 22RE and if you can't find a solid axle, doing the swap on an older truck is almost the same price and almost the same amount of work as modding it using All Pro's or Marlin's kits.

Since I will be living in North Dakota, I don't think the top will come off much. The 4runner would be cool cause you could get a little heater and sleep in the back, but I would use the bed a lot, so I want a truck.

after 31s and a locker, some body protection might come in handy, especially below the doors and around the rear of the bed. there's several aftermarket companies making bumpers and body armor.

Gotcha, but you can have Both! Look for an 85 SR5, but look at 84 SR5s too - there were quite a few SR5 XtraCab 84s with the 22RE as well.

If I had to choose - no question - EFI (and the few extra ponies) is more important to me than the solid axle. I will never own another vehicle without EFI.

Well, the rear bumper and sliders are easy to build. I know the winch bumper
(i.e. All Pro) sticks out very far. My question is: How protected is the winch?
