Hey everyone, I just bought a 1987 Turbo Pickup. I know my name
isn't very original. But nonetheless I'm pretty excited about having
a truck especially a Toyota. But also since I'm kinda new to the
scene I will probably have a lot more questions then answers. I
wanna use my truck but I want it to be good looking. Right now
my truck is good mechanically but it needs a little body work. I
wish I have pictures to show you but the truck is 500 miles from
me right now cause I'm at college. But I have two holes of rust
in the bed of the truck that I would really like to take care of.
What would you do if you were me? I wanna repair it myself and
want to know what materials are good to use. And I was going

Welcome Aaron.
Rust is like cancer. So you have to cut it out, weld in new metal. Sand blast it, prime it with the good stuff like DP-40 or DP-50. and then re-paint.
Or there is a rust neutralizer that you brush or spray on. Can't remember the name. Then duck tape some card board over the holes, crack a beer and call it good.
How is your turbo holding up???
Just replaced mine at 264,000 and some change. But run great now.

Hmm.. Yea I've seen Stacey do that on the show trucks and I use
to detail cars at an Auto-body shop in high school and they did it that way
but I was thinkingvof some sort of body filler. Or is that a very bad idea?
Cause I'm a college student and don't have a plasma cutter or welding
kit to do that such repair. Are there any other alternative you know of
besides cardboard? And to the question about the turbo it works really
well. My truck only has 152,000 thats pretty good. I really get a kick
out of seeing the light turn on when you give her a little gas. Well
anymore ideas on the rust would be greatly appreciated thanks.

There is a type of bondo that is called allmetal or sometihing like that.
If you want to keep it cheap. But you need to neutralize the rust first to keep it for growing. Goto an auto body supply shop and tell them what you want to do. If they are good and honestpeople, the will steer you in the right direction.
Warning:
For your turbo be sure to idle down before shut down! If you didn't know already..............

Toyturbo, Sorry I don't know why the website didn't work for you
it works for me.. But anyways what things would you reccomend
I do differently with my truck since it is a turbo. I know to let the
turbo cool down after driving it especially when driving it hard. And
I know to change the oil exactly every three thousand miles. I
typically use Pennzoil in my other car and my family's cars and it
works well, any suggestions or tips would be greatly apprecaited.

I tried the site again andit worked. Hate AOL(All-Outof-Luck). Prices seem good. It's new aftermarket parts, Probably not OEM.
I bought my truck from the original owner at 198,000. Risky but the price was right. I new nothing about the engine except it was a 22r, O.K. 22RTE.
Samething???? Not!!!
Different head,Block, Radiator, electrical, etc, etc.
Killer truck though. Dig the power until I blew up the turbo. It was old, Mechanic F@#!ed up, long story....
Regular maintenance is key.
I change my oil every @2,500. 20w-50 spring, summer, and fall.
30w or 10w-40 for the winter. Why, I don't know. Cold starts in the winter,
Like to drive fast.
Flushing the cooling system is good. I run 50/50 distlled water/anti-freeze.
My current mechanic that helps with the stuff I'm afraid to do, can't believe the motor has held up this long. He just keeps telling me to do what I've been doing, and that I might make it to 300,000...........
Wrote to much ran out of space. Probably a good thing.
