Why hard starting after sitting for one day or so?

Starts up great after use. I put in new cold start injector, battery is fine , new filter. No final solution yet. Any mechanical techs out there? Is there some kind of pressure leak down maybe somewhere? Thanks . Some one else asked this question before however no one ever seems to answer it.

are you sure the battery is fine? i had the same problem... my alternator worked however, my battery was in storage for a long time (over a year) it was a optima type.... well anywyas... in the morning, it wouldnt start, then i jumpstarted the truck and went to work.... it would work fine all day long.... the next morning it was dead again..... it turns out that it had lost its ability to hold a charge, but being hte higher caliber battery, lost its charge a lot slower than most batteries..... luckily, i had a 2 year free replacement warranty from kragens... no questions asked, and with no receipt... however, i work at wheelworks, so the employees at kragens know me on a first name/personal level....

When you try and start, does it crank fine and seem like no spark, or will it just not crank?

i think that your check valve at the pump may be leaking, allowing the fuel pressure to leak down over an extended period of time, next time before you start it after its been sitting for awhile, cycle the key on and off a few times to allow the fuel pump relay to be energized so that the pressure builds up, if it starts right up, then its a check valve problem

You could have leaky injectors.

or leaky injectors, slipped my mind, also a leaking pressure regulator will bleed off pressure

Good ideas. Trucks battery turns over starter great. Spins fast. Truck has new main relay by drivers kick panel. I changed cold start injector and the manual says put rag under any fuel leaking but none leaked out. I didnt see any pressure escaping when i undid the fitting or fuel. By the way easy job to change csi. It has spark. How long should one crank it before it should start after sitting for say two days. After 12 hours today it starting after say 5 seconds but acted like no fuel for a while. Thats what confused me since after sitting only couple of hours starts in half second.

So if a check valve is leaking do i have to change the whole fuel pump? 86 22rte. At least i have a new csi . LOL A tech told me it wouldnt hurt to change that anyway but truck only has 42k on it, but im thinking age also. And it did sit for 4 yrs in storage. All four injectors could be leaking? Clean? Just change out o-rings? I,m not clear on this.

I'd say, provided everything is working like it should, it shouldn't take real long to start. Mine starts on the first try, about 1 second of cranking. I'd have to go with agrunner and joe, and say leaky injectors or regulator.

Let it sit for a while...say, until it would be hard to start. Then start pulling plugs. If they are wet, then leaking injectors is your problem. That's what I think the problem is.

Okay Runner If thats the problem whats the fix? Espensive? Replace o-rings of injectors etc? Complete set of things couldn,t be more than 7 dollars an injector for parts? Pull the plugs before or after trying to start?

If you need an injector fix, If it was me I would send them off to have them rebuilt. I'm tryin for the life of me to think of the company... I want to thinks its something like RC engineering. I'll do some diggin and see what I can find.

Ok.. that was a good guess, it was RC. Check out this page. Scroll down to the injector part see what you think.

Downey will rebuild your injectors if I remember correctly. I think it was pretty expensive though. Or maybe they just sell new injectors. I forget. www.downeyoff-road.com

I had posted about this problem a while back. My starter fails unpredictably. Never anything more serious than popping the clutch or cycling the key, but it's annoying.
Sometimes I will hear the starter spinning, but no flywheel engagement. I was directed to lube the shaft in the starter. I have yet to follow through with this. One day, I tell ya.....

You would need to pull them and have them rebuilt. RC Engineering does them for $20. Cruizin Performance does them for $12 an injector. I'm about to send a set off to them and then I'm going to swap them in one evening. Right now their turn-around time is 6 days from the arrival of the injectors.

Yeah pull the plugs before you try to start it. Otherwise you would be defeating the purpose of waiting because you would burn off the excess fuel that has accumulated in the cylinders.

How many miles or age of truck do injectors go bad? I know it depends probably on gas quality and how often one changes the fuel filter. One tech told me at toyota if it was an injector problem it would be hard to start all the time and not just from sitting but i got the message through a good parts guy that asked him for me. But hey they could be leaking down. Makes sense to me. He was probably talking about if they were totally bad. My peugeot still has good injectors at 142k and 1982. Turbodiesel though. But i also was told turbos sometimes start harder than non-turbos
