In the cargo area of my 2000 4runner Limited there is a panel on the right side that removes with two knobs. There are 2 straps inside that look like they hold something specific. What is supposed to be there, if anything?

I just bought my 2000 4Runner a week ago and I was just about to post the same question. There is even a plastic cutout at the forward end of that compartment that appears to want to house something very particular. Perhaps when I get the Owner's Manual it will have an answer.

L33,

For 3rd gens, the jack and that thing you turn it with are located under the passenger seats:

See the pics.

I really don't think Toyota had anything particular in mind. I have bungees, tow straps, etc in there.

Probably for a tire. If you blow your tire and use the spare, your original gets strapped down in the back.

I keep a first aid kit strapped in there, but I want something cooler. Hmmm... maybe a midget bodyguard or something?

Warning Triangles

The straps are for warning triangles, in the manual it says thats what they're for, but they are not included with the vehicle.

I use that area to store my hitch for the hitch receiver...

The staps come in hand to keep it from rattling around.

My sub also fires into that "hole" so there's nothing to see (but the tan box) when the tonneau cover is open.
