I know OME, just seeing if there is anything else, they are quite pricey. I have recently purchased Tundra and LC coils, so need to get new shocks. I was looking at the Sonoran Steel lift and they are using Tokico shocks for a 4runner or Taco. Any suggestions????? thanks

 

yeah, search and read a lot.

Get the same shocks that S.S. offers or Bilstiens. You don't want OME with those springs.

 

i have searched and read alot of posts. most people seem to be using OME, just thinking there was an alternative.

 

The OME's are basically a LC shock (at least that was their intended use, 4runners and tacos adopted them later).
Might want to PM Andy (Bamachem) for other possible combos.

 

You'll most likely want to use stock Toyota LC shocks with the LC springs. They're the correct longer length and will exactly match the articulation of your LC springs. The parts number is: 48531-69486. They're cheap too, $54.20 per pair from Toyotapartssales.com. BTW: they're stock Tokico black. Hope that helps!

According to my information, Tundra coils go on the front and LC coils on the rear.

We sell alot of OME shocks with LC coils and have had no complaints. Steve is the authority on 3rd Gen setups and he will know which one to use but my customers are happy with the OME shocks. Just my 2 cents.

 

sorry, i should have been more specific. According to Steve, front OME shocks are bad news. Understandably so, they are fine for the rear.

They are nice shocks, big pistions and sized for a Prado. Which is too long for a 4Runner. I blew one alxe, Andy blew BOTH axles, at the same time, one right after the other.

Front shock length is very critical. Also you can't just "throw" FZJ-80 shocks on a 4Runner and expect them to work. The compressed length is too long you will squish the guts out from over compression and there are a slew of other issues that our kit addresses for the added droop. which is signifigant.

ARB/OME makes nice stuff. They just re-used Prado stuff for the 96-02 4Runner, which is OK, but not ideal. Although the studs on the upper rear N86 shocks do break off on alot of people. All of whom have no Trac/PanHard correction. Which is more than likely the culprit not the shock.

Our FJ-62 has all OME stuff, 2K worth. My 3rd Gen SAS's have OME rear shackles, main eye center pins & OME FJ steering stabalizers. They have good stuff and I use it if applicable.

I do however think Alcan and Deaver have the leafs down better.
