What is this noise

Alright, flame me later for this newb question but as usual I searched and every topic was non-related. I havve this whine, similar to a PS whine, that increased with RPM which I thought for sure was the TBelt. Had that replaced, which turned out to be a good thing since it had a stress crack along its width, but the noise persists. I see no leaks on the PS unit and the fluid appears normal. What could be the cause? It's not a high pitched whine but more of a groaning whine (wtf?) THe sound doesn't change when I move the steering wheel, only as the RPM increases. I have no loss of power either. I remeber it started on Coyote Canyon (SoCali) in one of the rock gardens. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. TTORA hasn't let me down yet.

What I really need is someway to get a soundbite on here so diagnosis would be easier.

Thanks in advance..........

I have an annoying whine as well that increases with RPM. I used the poor man's mechanic stethoscope and the noise is clearly coming from my alternator. I'm guessing it can be a worn out alternator bearing or a damaged diode in the rectifier.

At idle, the whine gets noticeably louder with increased electrical load such as turning on my low/high beams and fog lights.

Not the case with mine but I did come across this video of someone that apparently fried their AC compressor bearing after some water crossings.

This is the identical noise mine is making and come to think of it when I crossed the third water crossing at Coyote Canyon the water was coming over the hood and I may have very well fried the AC bearing at that time.

Mine made a similar noise, and while trying to isolate, I un-tightened the AC compressor idler pulley, and it went away, no new compressor needed.

Was this groaning noise present before you had that t-belt replaced?
If it occured after, it might be a good possibility that the t-belt tensioner is putting a little to much tension on the t-belt.

Did another t-belt and 90k service interval on a 2001 4-runner 3.4 V-6 today.
And the t-belt sang a song... i think the noise is called harmonics. i just tried to take-up a little bit too much slack in the belt at the tensioner itself.
And i was'nt about to take the tensioner all back out again cause' one of those bolts are a pain to get to.. ha!
But the jobs done and there's goes another happy toyota owner!

Here's a peek of the job in progress.

I am having a similar issue. Only mine ONLY happens while in gear D, 2, 1, or R. It increases with RPM. I flushed my tranny 2 weeks ago and it seems to have started then. I haven't noticed any problems shifting or anything like that. Should I be worried? My mechanic told me to try some Lucas Transmission Additive...didn't help. Since it only happens in gear, I am guessing it is the torque converter? Any ideas?
