What the hell are StepShields?
I know what they are, but I haven't seen anyone mention having them and I haven't seen anyone with pictures of them on their rigs. I've had mine for about 2 years now. They're made by VentShade. Here's some pics:
Yeah, I know they're dirty, but that's the point. They protect the paint of the door sill from all that crap. I'm also not fanatical about cleaning my truck. Plus, I have kids, so it's kind of a losing battle.
I bought mine at GI Joes for $19.99. They simply attach using really sticky double sided tape. Just clean the door sill with the included alcohol wipe, peel the backing off the tape, line 'em up and stick 'em on. They've held for almost two years now and I can't see them failing at any point in the near future, either.
Hope you found this interesting.

PS I love my new digital camera, can you tell?

Well I think you kinda answered your own question...I guess they're just there so that boots or high-heals (hopefully not on you) won't scratch or scuff the paint...thats about all I can think of.

The only thing I have seen thats similar is this clear stuff thats like really thick clear packing tape, that you pur on the thresholds. Those are pretty cool, though

Yeah Jayson (and Fink) I was being rhetorical...
My GF says they're "cute". As long as whatever I do to the truck makes it more "cute", and it doesn't matter what that may be, as long as it's "cute", she is all for it.

Just curious, Dr. Z, but how do your door seals hold up with people stepping there? I know mine shows some wear just from brushing my foot across them when I get in. Sounds like a good idea, very handy for the lifted rigs.

As you can see, my door seals are in good shape. I think that since there is a visual cue provided by the StepShields, people step there purposely, which helps save some wear and tear on the door seals.
And since you mentioned being lifted, they do help in muddy and/or wet situations since smooth, painted surfaces tend to be a bit slippery. They give a nice, solid place to put your foot.
Peace.

Oh, about 17 or so around town. I'll know more after a few more tanks with the present tire pressure that I am running (32.5 PSI).

The first tank was 15.4! The tires were at 29 PSI, so I upped them to 32 PSI and got 16.5 on the next tank. So, I'm trying 32.5 PSI to see how that goes. I also readjusted my front bug guard because it was whistling, which meant it had poor aerodynamics. No whistling now.
Okay, we now return you to our regularly scheduled topic in this thread...

I really need some of those. I think the previous owner carried around a bunch of baseball players that never took their metal cleats off.
We dont have GI Joe's here though...I wonder where else I could get those exact guards?

Hey Christian,
VentShade makes them, so just about any place that carries that brand should be able to get some of these. Lemme see who has them online...
These guys seem to have the best price: http://www.suvxccessory.com/xccessory/t1a1ss-91142.html
Everyone else is $5-10 higher.
Autozone says they stock them in black for $26.99. I bet they might even have some at your local store.
Good luck!
