Maybe the QC inspector ? It would have been neat if it told you what number produced runner it was of the MY, but I doubt it.
Hopefully someone here knows.

Also with a vin starting with a "J" it was made in Japan as opposed to pickups and tacos that start with a "4" and were made in the us.

I ask because my '96 says Made In Japan No. 001, which I thought was interesting.

I'm curious as to what it denotes.

Could it just be the actual tag number?
My '91 says Made in Japan No. 193.
Now I'm curious, too!

I sent a note to Toyota.

We will see if they respond - they certainly have in the past, with the most recent being a denial of any financial help for getting the gas gauge fixed in the runner.
Bastages.
I figured WTH - some people have actually gotten them to pony up.
At any rate, I will let you know if they answer.

Hmmm - a Japanese mystery.

Toyota came back with :

" We are sorry, our office does not have access to the significance, if any, of the description you are seeking."

Anyone here have any contacts in Japan ?

Thanks !
