MAF part #

I remember reading there was an update to the MAF for a '99 4Runner 3.4l, but can't find the forum post I'm thinking of.

Anybody know what the updated # is?

Is the 99 3.4 the old style MAF that goes in the air intake tube The big Clunky thing.

It is quite easy to go to the newer style MAF you just need to move a few wires in the plug.

You also need the newer air box and intake tube

Unless you can get creative with plastic

Was this what your thinking of ??

I did this on my 98 3.4 engine.

Now I use the Same MAF in both 3.4 engines

The PO installed a cold air intake ::roll eyes:: which is fitted for the new style MAF with the probe and square block that bolts to the side of the intake tube.

My '97 had the old clunky tunnel style.

So the newer style part #

You might have a bad time with that "cold air intake". If the diameter of the maf housing is different, the ECU will try to compensate. If it's too much of a difference, you'll set codes and go into a rich limp mode. Search this forum for problems with CAIs. There's nothing wrong with either style MAF, I ran 400 crank HP thru an old cartridge style MAF. Like Wyoming said, it's 3 wires to change pin positions and either will work fine. Whatever is easier/cheaper to come up with will work fine.

I've been running the Caik for 20k+ miles as it was on there when I bought the rig last year. So I haven't had trouble until now. I know there are people that have trouble with them. Knock on wood I believe the intake is unrelated to my current scenario. Although I have the old air box so if it still is unresolved, I can switch back.
