Weird problem with 2000 lmtd.

Hey guys I haven't posted in awhile but I was wondering if anyone could help me out with a problem I'm having. I have a 2000 Limited 4x4 with 100K. lately when I'm slowing to a stop right before the vehicle is at a complete standstill it feels like something from the rearend slides forward and thuds. I've read the threads about the slip yoke and I have greased my entire driveline but the symptom has not changed. What else can I do to figure out what this is?

Have you checked your suspension components? Crawled under the truck and looked? Checked the cargo area cubby holes? Jack come loose?

My inside storage compartments are empty and my jack is secure. I've also jacked it up and checked for play in the u-joints and also the suspension but I can't find anything loose. Its frustrating because it doesn't affect driveability at all but when slowing at every stop it happens. I did think about the suspension being the culprit as it is the oem components with 100k on them but I'm just not seeing anything to warrant the symptom. Is there anything special I need to be looking at?

Do you feel the thud when taking off from a start? Is your spare tight?

Check your lower and upper control arm bushings. Maybe get back there and jump up and down on the tailgate area to see if anything makes noises. The panhard bar (lateral traction bar) also makes noises sometimes. I've had it before and I just go under there and spray with silicone spray and tighten the bolts a touch.

There is nothing when I'm taking off from a start only when slowing down. I got under this weekend and did exactly what bajarunner said and I still can't see anything causing the problem. I also took the spare off and went for a drive and it does it with it off.

Is there any sign of oil leakage on the back plates of the rear wheels? Axle seal leakage?

What kind of grease did you use? Regular bearing grease for the yokes will not cut it. I think the yokes need the grease to have some degree of moly in it. Eight nipples in all.

I used this grease for my yokes a couple of years ago and the thud ceased:

And/Or:

Like kball said, check the rear; while there look close your bellcrank and see if the ebrake is binding....but it sounds like the driveshaft.

Mine does the same thing on occasion. Usually it occurs when I come to a complete stop and then ever so slightly lift my foot off the brake. It will then jerk forward like there was some energy built up and cracking the brakes loose released it. Could be a driveline thing, all of the other suggestions wouldn't seem to cause it imo.

yeah mine did that too

is this when foot on brake and it feels like a surge ?

turned out the MAF was dirty. bad signals when rolling to a stop, occasional
little hump/thump like it wanted to surge when stopping

clean it.

worth a try
-------------
second thing to check is examine ATF fluid for any moisture/strawberry milkshake.
same type of problem can occur when the leak just starts to form...odd surges and whatnot
