18.3 half and half city and freeway driving.
Gonna makea trip to the Oregon Coast next month, then I'll know what it makes at 65-70 mph constant highway mileage.

Quick question: I fill up once the gas light comes on. Seems like the pump stops at around 14-15 gallons. I thought we had a 18 gal tank?

I've been averaging 16mpg around the city, but there are a LOT of hills.

i filled w/ exactly 15.000 gallons today and the light had come on while in line.
i think the tank volume is 18.5g, so that'd be 3.5 gallons after the light is on.

I thought capacity is 15 Gallons, with 16 being the absolute max of the tank. How's everyone doing on fuel economy tracking? I am curious to see the number of 3rd Gens increase on the site so we have a better baseline to compare results with.

I tracked my mileage on my trip to Moab. Here are the stats of that trip:

Approximate vehicle weight 5900lbs
Tires: 37x12.5x15 Goodyear MT/R
Tire PSI: 32psi
Gears: 4.88:1
Toyota Automatic 4spd transmission
Miles per hour: between 55 and 65mph, tried to maintain 60mph
tracked by fill-up.
Filled up in Santa Fe, NM and then topped off again in Cuba, NM

Mileage with above conditions: 20MPG

'99 Limited 186,000 miles I've replaced both cat, O2 sensors and the intake sensor within the last year. $$

I get 19-20 hwy @ 75 mph. Has anyone noticed an MPG difference between 87 octane and premium?

I can get any where from 280 - 310 miles from one tank of fuel on my '97. But I fuel it up till the gas drips out so I know it is max full.

I have put as much as 18.2 gals in it before.

I avg 19.5 to 20.5mpg at every fill up. ECT is always off and I don't accelerate aggressivly. I have a 2002 Sport 2WD with 31,000 miles.

I'm still getting 20 more miles a tank with the ECT on and I'm now running 85 octane with no issues but the altitude helps that.

Some of you guys are lucky bastards...I get about 14 mpg on my 99 sr5. Its wierd though, once I am on the highway I get 19-21

So is it BEST for gas mileage to run your rig with the ECT ON??

tires and mileage

An earlier post mentioned crappy dunlop tires. That's what the dealer put on when I bought it a few weeks back and my gas mileage was roughly 23 hiway. I decided to dump the dunlops and put on toyo open country a/t's. Great tire but heavier than the dunlops with a deeper tread so my mileage has decreased noticeably. I'm not sure how much tho.

The dealer Dunlops are crappy! It was down-right scary with a decent amount of rain on the road. I wouldn't trade my Bridgestone Dueler Revo's for anything, well, except for that ~1mpg loss.

/shrug

It was worth the comfort of knowing I was on tires that stick to the ground a little better.

Initially my avg mpg was 18/20 and with the lift and 285 at's its closer to 15/18 soo not so bad. I have not regeared yet for a few reasons. First to regear the rear 3rd mem. has to be dissmantled and if thats the case I want a ARB put in there with the new gears and dont want to have to do it twice. Soo Im waiting. Second I think reagearing will bring me back if not closer to stock mpg. Now with the SSR's on gas just shouldnt matter!! For instance before the lift with 265 AT's I averaged 280-300 mpt with lift and 285 AT's I averaged 235-280 mpt, with the lift and SSR's I average 200-250 mpt.
