21.0 mpg per the fuel economy website.
(328 miles, 15.620 gallons, about 50/50 driving)

I sure missed the WHOMMMMM!!! though. Not having to haul many huge loads of garden and other junk around this week prolly helped too.

I have NOT checked my mpg since the "air elbow removal" and addition of True Flow air filter to my 4R yet. (Just recenlty did them both. Next full tank, I'll check for any improvements in mpg and comment on the outcome.) Before those mods, I average 300 miles per tank. Usually 19.025 - 19.256 mpg. That's w/ a stock '02 4WD Sport 4Runner w/ 25K miles and running 70-75mph and doing 60% highway driving. When traveling, I usually get 360 miles out of a tank before my gas light even comes on. That equates to around 22-23 mpg. (I'd rather not push it, but I think if I was brave enough, I could make it to 400! How cool would that be.) I use to have a '95 T4R w/no extreme mods, and was doing good to get 14mpg. I'm loving the new runner!

I get in the 18s-high 19s (like 19.8) all the time now.
When I lived in Texas I was getting between 250-280 miles per tank and now In Tennessee I get between 280-308 (never more then 308 miles)

i didn't read this whole thread. read up to half way through the 2nd page

Basicly, for the last 4 tanks, i've been calculating my gas milage since i put in fuel injector cleaner...

before i put the cleaner in, i was getting 16.8 MPG average.

Now i am on my 5th tank, and so far i've been getting 17.4 MPG consistantly (there are usualy a couple more digits.. but thats rounded)

now as for the 300 miles a tank, it is possible mathimaticly....

cause i know i have an 18.5 gallon tank, so if i get 17 mpg and use all 18.5 gallons, i theoretically can get 314 miles outta my tank, but thats not w/ real world stuff...

My truck is a 98 w/ 122k miles on it. And i have a lead foot like a mug. I gun it outta my neighborhood and i do gass it to make it drop to first to get that hard acceleration when i pass firends and ÅÅÅÅ b/c i'm a kid... so basicly when i accelerate, it eaither shifts at 3500 RPM's or like 300 rpm before redline. if i accelerated like a normal human being, i'd probably get a little better gas milage.

Thumbs up

My #s since the ISR and 6 inch Deckplate install...
Miles Gal Mpg
200.8 12.017 16.71
317.7 17.150 18.52
231.2 12.505 18.49
324.1 17.398 18.63
210.0 12.686 16.55

First #s was rite after the install so I was pushing more than normal to see how loud it was going to be. Last set of #s was the first time I towed about 1400 lbs under 70 miles that tank. 70% Expressway 30% City. All stock never tuned, 70k in miles.

I'm back up to 16MPG average. My 4Runner really is ONLY a recreation vehicle, mostly hauling camping gear and mountain bikes. I'm not to easy on the gas pedal either, so I guess that contributes to my ˟˟˟˟˟ty fuel economy. I'm going to run 3 tanks through with the ECT on just to see if there is a difference. Also, I might try to go easy on it, accelerate a little easier, use the cruise control, and generally drive a little slower to see if I can push it to 18+ MPG.

I am at 16-17mpg at best with 285/75/16's. I have had a "check engine" light on for awhile===probally an O2 sensor. Maybe if I get that changed my mpg will go back up.

wow my last two runs were horrible.. 248 and 247.6 on 16.8 and 16.6 gallons.. that ranges from 14.5 to 14.9
now none of it is highway and i do have a little bit of a lead foot on takeoff.. plus i have a yakima rack with mako saddles on top and a brushguard plus goodyear mtr 265/75 now.. but if im making 3% more distance then i would be getting around 15.5 mpg.. im gonna make an all hwy run sometime soon and see what happens with the rack off.

Edit... I got 314 last tank. that gave me 19.416 MPG that tank.

I also have the deckplate mode (out so its open), also a roofrack and I am not easy at all on my pedal (I drive fast and take most lights like I am at the dragstrip)
I guess I am just lucky.

A quick query of the last 7 tanks reveals...
Code:
select gallons, trip, (trip/gallons) as mpg from gas.gas where trip <> 0

gallons	trip	mpg
15.719	297.8	18.94522552
14.931	298.5	19.99196303
15.990	296.6	18.54909318
14.877	286.1	19.23102776
15.562	302.3	19.42552371
15.576	297.0	19.06779661
15.337	283.7	18.49775054
an average = 19.10119719mpg

You guys that get 350 a tank aren't suppossed to run your tire pressure at 44psi.

I'm getting 240 a tank with mostly city driving and I do like to accelerate from a stop (I think this plays a big factor) plus I have D load range Nittos which I think could use a little more pressure in them so I'm going to try a few more psi and see what I get.

Anyone see the mythbusters which did a test on whether it was better for fuel economy to drive with the windows down or the AC on? In the end they showed that the AC is worse for gas mileage in a pretty significant way.

Jaime, are you sure? I didn't see mythbusters but there were a ton of articles on how to save gas. One of the myths the article talked about was A/C vs. open your window. The articles I read all said the same, there wasn't a major difference between the two.

I saw the Mythbusters where they proved that driving with the tailgate down causes drag on the truck thereby reducing gas mileage.

i think the differance came from start and stop = bad mileage with a/c on, but at a steady rate (>25mph?) the a/c had little effect.

I just did almost 400 mile round trip , on the first refill , I put in 9.6 gals and went 236 miles,= 24.58 MPG! I could'nt believe it. The fuel gauge was just a little below 1/2. Looks like I was getting about 50 miles for every 1/4 mark.

In town I get around 17-18 MPG.

I seem to always get around high 19's or low 20's per tank of gas. I just filled up today and was able to get 283.7 miles out of the tank of gas. When I filled up I was only able to put 13.462 gallons of regular 87.

283.7/13.462 = 21.074 mpg

BTW

2000, Auto, only mods are elbow removed, ISR with stock tires. I set the cruise control at 70 on the freeway.

I will start to post my fuel consumption here as well.
On the last tank of gas I fueled up 15.34 gallons and was at 318 miles. That equals 20.73 mpg.
For those of you who dont believe that some of us are getting over 20 mpg, i will scan my gas receipts and take a pic of my mileage odo. I have a 5 speed manual, and I think this makes all the difference as to why im getting such high gas mileage.

I've been keeping a log of MPG since I got my 4runner a few months ago.

It's a 2002 Sport, V6 with 38k. It's all stock except for the recent deck-plate mod, and I'm averaging 20.1 MPG. My highest has been 20.9, and the lowest I think 19.xx. This is highway/city combined.

I do not use ECT, and generally take it very easy on starts and stops.

Quick Reply: We need more 3rd Gen 4Runners!
