Last tank I got 416.2 km from 52 L, which averages out to around 22.6 mpg, up about 3 mpg from my last tank....I'd say that certain 'brands' of gas run better then others, more then likely from the additives.

Gas MPG

Hey everyone,

I am getting a little over 300 miles per tank. Averaging about 17-19 city. Not bad considering this is a real truck with very heavy 4WD components.

Going to upload my fuel usage from the last year or so fueleconomy.gov, hopefully there will be some improvement! I'd take 17MPH average!

I have a 2002 sport @92k miles, completely stock. I go to school an hour out of town and drive back every weekend. Therefore I have mostly highway miles
(I drive at 65 miles per hour btw).
On an average tank I find myself getting about 20-21 mpg. But more city driving comes in at around 18 mpg.
-4WD
-Pathfinder all-terrain tires (265/75/R16)

Edit: Forgot to mention that I usually go about 380 miles on a tank for my highway driving.

I just bought a 1998 4runner ltd with 141xxx miles. everything checked out got an inspection all i need to do was get most of the fluids change. ive already changed the oil and flushed the tranny and transfer case.

i went 160 miles and filled up 12.5 gallons. i got about 12.5 mpg. thats terrible. right before i did that i put in seafoam into my tank but not the pcv so hopefully that helps. 150 miles of that was freeway driving the other 10 city driving so idk what the problem is :/ any ideas?

i also used cruise control the whole way as well

3rd Gen MPG

Well I am pretty lucky with my MPG. I am now averaging 20-21.5 MPG on 1996 4 runner with 237,000 miles. I was getting about 18-18.5 on average up until about 2 months ago when I begin to have a misfire on cylinder 6. I replaced the plugs and wires in attempt to aleviate the problem, but I had to replace the fuel injector. I then replaced the air filter and pumped the tires up to about 38 psi and now I average between 20-21.5 MPG, which depends on how easy I take it and how much Hwy dribing there is. I recently drove 360 miles all highway at about 70-75 MPH with cruise and received 21.3 MPG. Not bad, with the ethanol gas.

I have only had my 99 4runner for a couple months. The best MPG I have seen was 22 mpg on a 2 hour road trip at 70 mph most of the time and the worst I have seen is 17.7 mpg which was mostly city driving. I am very pleased with the mileage I am getting out of my 4runner considering it has a really bad lifter tick.

My 96, 5vzfe 4wd 5spd. I usually get 250+miles to the tank..
After upgrading to 33x12.50 tires with out regearing, I usually got 212-225 miles to the tank, I reset the odometer every time I fill up. ;/
I DO have a lead foot, especially on the freeway.

Just figured out what mpg I got. Before I modded my rig, I was averaging 18 mpg. After add heavy 35's and re-gear to 5.29's I lost about 5 mpg literally. Yeah driving on highway sucks.

Well....... With 295's 4.88's armored and running as light as possible going 65mph I get on average with variation in ethanol 16.9-18.9mpg. I find the better gas mileage is achieved through lower speed (duh).

What tire pressure is best for mileage? Im running 29 cold as suggested on the inside of the door. Should I increase it?

Also has anyone tried changing the gap on spark plugs to do the same? Havent changed the plugs so dont know if they are gapable.
thanks

Thanks

I've always heard 35 was the best psi.

wow that is high. Would that wear the tires pre. maturely or make traction and braking significantly compromised?
