WARN hub question
I picked up a pair of used WARN hubs (actually a whole front end) to replace the Auto hubs on my 86 4Runner. I know I'll need a 54mm socket (same as 2-1/8" ) but my question is about the gaskets. Can I use the factory Aisin hub gaskets or will I need to get gaskets from WARN specifically for WARN hubs?

the paper gasket between the warm hub housing assembly and the truck hub requires a toyota dealership gasket or silicone if you wish
the warn company sells rebuid kits w/ gasket and what not also....
not sure which one yer talkin bout
hope that helps

Not sure on an 86, but for my 95 2nd gen. 4runner, I did not need the 54mm socket. Those 54mm nuts kept the inner hub/rotor assembly on the spindle. The outer freewheel hub assembly just unbolts from the inner hub, so removing the entire inner hub is not necessary. And yes, you need to get 2 new paper gaskets to go between the warn hubs and the inner hub. Total cost is like $2 at your Toyota dealer. Finally, the Warn hubs are bolt on for replacing an ADD hub, but I believe you need this conversion kit when going from a Toyota OEM automatic hub to a Warn locking hub. I would check 4wheelparts.com and search this forum to make sure though.

Thanks for the info. I'll swing by the local dealer to pick up the gaskets. As for the front end, they are basically identical from 86-95 with the only difference being Auto, ADD or Manual hubs.
I'm converting a Auto hub truck to Manual. I have a whole front end that I bought that had WARN front hubs. I purchased the 54mm (2-1/8") socket yesterday and easily removed the front CV axles from the spare front end. This weekend I plan to swap out everything, we'll see how it goes. Thanks.
I referenced this article for info:

I plan on doing this conversion to my 4 Runner. On a scale of 1-10 what would you say the difficulty factor is. Any added tips that will make the process go smoother?
Thanks for the link. It has a lot of useful information.

I replaced my auto hubs with Warn manual hubs this weekend. It was pretty easy I would say. Each side took me about an hour. I was amazed at all the small parts inside the auto hubs compared to the manual hubs.
A couple of things you might run across that are not mentioned in the 4x4wire.com article are:
1. Frozen hex bolts on the auto hub cover. These can be easily stripped with standard hex keys. I found it necessary to use an impact driver to break these loose.
2. Stuck hub body. The article mentioned that you may have to tap the hub body with a hammer to remove the cone washers. The cone washers on my truck were very stubborn. I was able to remove them by standing to the side of the hub then striking the hub body near each cone washer with a hammer. I stood to the side because occasionally these cone washers would go flying.
3. If you get new Warn hubs, this will not be an issue, but I purchased mine used. The Warn hub cover gasket and the toyota hub cover gasket look very similar but are different. I used Toyota part no. 434222-60010 for the hub gasket, however Toyota part no. 43531-60010 star gasket is only for Aisin hubs and will not work with the Warn cover plate.
