A few days ago, the driver's side window on my 2001 4Runner started making a grinding noise when going down. Going up it sounds fine. Is a new window motor in my future, or???

 

what kind of grinding?

it might be dirt and sand down in the door panel rubbing against the glass when you roll it up and down.

 

It sounds "buzzy" like something in the gears.

 

maybe the window regulator motor is on its way out...this used to happen on a few cars we had....esp the vw gti...it would buzz, then quit, and then down the glass went into the door panel...pull off your door panel, and take a look

 

I just had the same noise, especially when it was cold. I still don't have the auto up working right and I'm thinking about replacing the whole thing.

My 2001 just started making the same noise. I noticed it most during the really cold days we had recently.

hell on my cherokee when that thing goes out all you here is the thump of the window falling to the bottom of the door. usually at no warning at all
