To loosen it you don't need to hold the pulley. You can't torque it properly by bumping it with the starter so you DO need to hold it with some kind of tool in order to torque it.

You know man, I made this tool myself and the bolts are long enough. It has and inch of protrusion on it. I'm wondering if the culprit/weak point is upon the tool or the receiving part of the pulley.

Anyways, where should I wedge the wrench if I do the starter bump?

To loosen the bolt, put the breaker bar handle up against the passenger side frame, I believe... I've never done it haha. I think the engine turns clockwise as your looking at it from the front of the truck.

Auto or manual tranny? Manual tranny...put in 5th, block all wheel, and firmly set e-brake.....you should be able to break the bolt loose.

Auto: breaker bar handle on the top of the driver side frame rail (or under the passenger side frame rail) using a 6 point socket....bungee the end of the breaker bar to the frame rail, pull EFI fuse so engine will not start...it will still turn over though and a quick bump of the key is all it should need.

I use a bolt with matching threads to the balancer holes and it seems they thread in more than inch. It's been two years since I was last in there so my memory may be off a bit.

Good luck!

If the engine turns clockwise, hmmm...put the breaker bar on the driver side frame....I think it doesn't matter since I going to use a breaker bar. Please correct me man if I'm getting it wrong

****I was looking at this similar case: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/r...t-pully-98525/

I'm only four hours from Seattle.

Haha, it's patience for you to get through this. The first time is always the hardest as you already know.

You said it, just an hour drive away! It's not impossible, one day...someday, RW!

Hey, when I get home from work 'bout noon tomorrow, I'll see how far my bolts on my holding tool thread into the pulley.

I run the stock pulley so have no insight on that one.

I used this tool and as you can see it doesn't go in the holes very deep.

I do think I should have put a longer one. The bolts might be a little bit short which caused the rubber to gave way!

Man, initially, this is what I've been looking at ebay but went for this one which is a bit cheaper but w/o reading the full description, it doesn't fit the the 3.4L I found out when I got it.

It's hard to say the right length. Some have used the tool kball has with no problem. I'll still measure my set-up tomorrow because I'm curious now.

Who knows, K! We're planning to drive by Cali(San Leandro) during the course of our planned 20-day road trip...but with this happened, our plan/route will be affected!

Where's the Amazon link you were saying K?
