I'm looking to paint my MT classic II's with duplicolor wheel paint. anybody done this before? I go wheeling pretty often and don't want to deal with chipping paint.

VHT polyurethane wheel paint is pretty resistant to chipping, which is what I used on mine.

yeah the MT classic II's are polisehd aluminum. What I had planned for prep was first clean them off real good, whipe them with acetone or something similar. then sand them down wet with 320 grit wet/dry sandpaper. maybe some steel wool. then get some self etching primer from an autobody supply store. a couple coats of that, a couple coats of duplicolor flat black wheel paint, and a couple coasts of duplicolor top clear coat. waht do you guys think?

The best thing to use to scuff up the surface of a wheel - especially one with hard to reach places - is a fiber cup brush. You can vary the speed and really get it good. And yes, you will want to prime them. This has been covered extensively if you search.

Hammertite paint seems to hold up pretty good but you will still have to touch them up. Not a big deal though.

I'm not sure how it works with wheels, but I just got my pb marker annodized. This permanantly dyes the aluminum. I've got steel wheels I'd like to turn black, im wondering if anyone has any good step by step pages for painting while mounted.

I just got cheesed one day at eh way my steelies were starting to look and went out after I had washed the car and let it dry...then masked ott the air valve, loaded behind the rim with paper towels to block the brakes, cut a big piece of cardboard to fit say one third of the wheel inbetween the bead and the tire and had at it with the rattle can. Even did the nuts. Hammertite paint worked GREAT! it sticks like mad and now when it does chip a little I just touch up that spot. In the meantime I am loking around a bit for a cheap set of stock steelies to have powdercoated...just too much hassle to do it with a daily driver but sheesh...the paint worked GREAT!

I did try one other time with a silver paint but that stuff didn't stick worth a damn. Go to like home depot and get some hammertite.
