Tacoma window question.....

I've got a 97 Tacoma with the factory tint on the pop-out rear windows in the extended cab. It has a mirror tint from the factory that is impossible to match. My question is, don't the newer extended cab Tacomas (2001-2004) have more of a smoke/black tint on those windows that's similar to the 3rd gen 4runners as opposed to the mirror tint I've got? Any of you with the newer Tacos please tell me what shade your rear side (pop-out) windows are factory tinted. Thanks!

im not sure exactly what your question is. my 04 is tinted. from the factory you can get 2 tint options (atleast in the '04), green or tinted. the green turns out to be clear....don't ask me.

Are you sure it came from the factory with mirror tint? Are you the original owner of this truck from new? I have had 2 Toyota Tacoma extra cabs, An 01 and an 02. Both bought new from the stealer. Both came with smoked/dark factory tint on the rear flip out windows and fully tinted rear window with a center slider. My new Tacoma double cab came with rear door windows and back window tinted from the factory(smoked). The reason I asked if you have had this truck from "new" is that not ALL Tacoma's have the foctory tint on the rear windows (option/package) .From the factory "should be" smoked and not mirror tint. Just my .02

Thanks guys!

You answered my question perfectly, especially with the "grey/green" part because I had talked to the dealer and they had mentioned that. I wondered what the heck the green was all about and now I know.

I did buy this truck new and there is no aftermarket tint on the windows. I probably didn't describe them perfectly by saying they were "mirrored", but they are more mirrored than they are smoked or gray or whatever. I've checked out alot of these windows in the past day or so and I think around 00 or 01 is when Toyota made the change. If you check out a 99 or older SR5 or LX (in my case) you'll likely see what I mean. On the older ones like that if you put aftermarket tint on the doors, the mirror look of the pop-outs is impossible to match!!

Thanks again everyone!

Two Options for ya my friend.

Platinum Plus 18% from LLUMAR window film.

or any Silver 20% from any company.

but im thinking its grayish mirror right? most likely the first one i mentioned. when matching factory tint its not always exactly the same, youtell the difference slightly from the inside looking out , or the outside looking in.

yea its a Kinda like Smoked Mirror tint. i have a 97 extra cab also... mine are the same way. i was just thinking abotu that actaully tonight. tiniting the front to windows to match the back. but i think i would actaully like them all darker. but it does have a mirror sense to it.

My plan

What I'm going to do to get past the mirror issue is replace the rear side windows. They should swap out relatively easy I hope (looks like 3 screws). I got one from EBAY for 5 bucks from a 2002. Some guy swapped his out for the clear (green) ones. I'm going to check local salvage yards to get the other side. But if they don't have one, the local Toyota stealership sells them new for $65. I wouldn't feel too bad about paying that much if I have to since I scored the other one for $5. I've seen so many of the newer Tacomas with the doors aftermarket tinted, and matching up the factory "smoke" tint on the back to the aftermarket tint I'd like to put on the doors seems pretty easy compared to matching that mirror stuff I've got now. Thanks for the help!
