Suspension and ARB/TJM bumper

So I hit a pole last night.

So I'm thinking about getting a TJM /ARB bumper. Will my currnet suspension(PP springs& Bilstien shocks) hold the weight of the new bumper?

As well I saw some pics before of a blue 4runner like mine with an ARB bumper. Can anyone tell me who he is? I would like to see those pics again. I believe he was from Colorado

Thanks Guys

Dave

It will probably hold but after a while it will start to sag. I suggest going with the OME combo all the way around or either get some SAW's up front to support the weight. The member I think you are thinking about is Darren. He has the stellar blue with a TJM t-15. this is is homepage Darren's Runner

If you're planning to go w/ the arb/tjm bumper, a good suggestion is to upgrade your suspension. The current configuration that you have now will only be able to sustain the weight for a short period of time.

It would be a good idea to upgrade to an OME setup or some combination of OME/SAW or even Steven Schaefers freaky combo setup.

I have the ARB with PP 1" Lift coils and Bilsteins in the front. I got 2" lift from this combo..

I installed the ARB back in November and I think it sagged maybe 1/8". I've been measuring from the top of the rim (wheel) to the bottom of the fender.
I'm at 1 7/8" 3 months later.

The PP coils don't seem to sag like the others.

its funny..you got totally different answers than i did when i asked this question...my suspension sags badly after the install of my arb..i mean like a full 2 inches at least up front. i have been turning those bolts like crazy...i am going to have to buy some saw's soon....speaking of SAWs, who knows how bad those are too install and all that good stuff. YES buy stronger suspension for that thing, you'll need it, ~kyle

I could be wrong but I was under the impression that it's just a simple bolt-on job?

SAWS on a 90 Runner...???...

You have Torsion bars on the front of your 90 Runner no coils like the series 3.

Grimace measure the distance between the top of your wheel and the bottom of you fender. If it is close to 14" you got almost 2" of lift like most with the PP + bilstein combo.

My runner with this combo wasn't even phased by adding the ARB. With OME coils you will get about 2" of lift and they will sag. You will have to add spacers with the OME coils. The best bet is the adjustable Downey/Bilstein version of SAWS or the SAWS so you can adjust them if they sag.

You have front Coils on a 90 Runner??????
You should have Torsion bars like the rest of the Series 2 Runners.

You cannot put SAWS on a Series 2 Runner....Well, You could ...but it ain't going to be a "Bolt On Job"

Grimace, put the ARB on and don't worry. The PP and Bilsteins might sag a whole 1/4". The PP coils are not going to sag like OME or Downey with the weight of the ARB. PP coils are a lot stiffer than the other coils.

Yeah Kyle you have T-bars, I remember adjusting them some after the ARB install. Remember I told you that you had plenty more adjustment left if you started to sag. Try cranking them up if you haven't already. Here is a good write-up on it: http://www.off-road.com/toyota/tech/torsion/index.htm

If that doesn't do it maybe look at some stiffer T-bars like Downey 26mm bars (that's what I have) or some air shocks or both. I forgot do you have a lift?

hey dale, yep i do have torsion bars and have raised them quite a lot since the install of the arb. i am still about a .5 inch lower in the front than in the back so it tilts forward...i am actually getting ready to try it again but i am not sure how much more i can turn those bolts? if this doesnt work its gonna have to be stronger t bars...anyways ttyl.

Sway-A-Way also makes Tbars for the 2nd gens. So when he said SAWs, he was correct although not quite what everybody was thinking.

I think the ARB3421010 is for the Toyota 4Runner - 1996 only .

Most of us have been getting the ARB3423020 which is made for the Toyota Tacoma - 1997-2003. It fits 97-2002 runners.

I got mine from Central4WD

Over $1000 for the ARB sounds a bit high to me, but I don't know the conversion rate for the $. I thought they were about $750 US$ range here.

Are you jacking up the front end 1st? Stiffer shocks won't help any but air-shocks will.

ummmm....

Back On topic....
I have the downey adjustable setup on my rig and they are cranked all the way with my TJM and its still not quite level with my rear OMEs. And my 285 75 tires rub pretty bad. Not TOOO bad, but bad. I have yet to do any trimming or pounding on my wheel wells yet though
