I have the Surco, and it is not bad.. Kinda tinny and cheap, but ok. It would be nice if a hi-lift could mount to it properly.. They do have a spare tire mount for it though. You have to buy adaptors for it to mount to your roof rack (or you can mount it to a Thule bar like I did) One more slight anoyance is that it does not have enough of a floor for my taste.. All in all, I give it a sturdy 5..
Lookie here, for my rack..

I have a Surco also...My pics are on Monty Pics as well, so I can't post them. I like my rack so far, but I haven't used it much since I got it in Feb. It's aluminum, but seems to be able to hold it's own when it comes to weight. I could justify spending $499 or so for a willderness, and I don't think the ConFerr is much less. I picked the Surco up for $168 if I remember right, but you do have to purchase the attachments separately. I don't know if the same applies to the other racks. Anyway, if Monty pics gets going again I'll post pics of mine.
Good Luck with your choice.

i really like my wilderness rack. it is very well made. My brother has the conferr rack and I think the wilderness is stouter and better looking. I also made a big, over-engineered safari rack for my previous truck and the wilderness rack is almost as stout as the custom job.
Montypics is back up!! Here's my Wilderness rack. The pics also show the simple hi-lift brackets i fabbed up.
Here's a good thread: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/show...?threadid=5872

I've got a sucro. It's cheap and has a lot of mounting accessories. It's a good light duty rack. I carry my spare up there sometimes, a hi-lift, tool boxes, gas cans, mountain bikes and kayaks without any trouble. However, you do get what you pay for. I've had mine for almost 2 years and it's starting to loosen up. I haven't had a chance to look at it yet, but I'm not that concerned about it.
If all you need is a light duty rack and money is an issue, get the surco. If you want a heavier duty rack, or money is not an issue, go with one of the other racks.

I have lots of pics on my site. Look around if you want to see some specific angle on the rack.

Fuel economy sucks either way. With the basket, fairing, and lights I lose about 35-50 miles on each tank of gas, depending. As for wind noise, the fairing does make a huge difference with the lights. The lights use a single bolt to mount, and the bolt goes through a plate and is secured with a nut. The bolt and nut hang down low enough to cause a very noticable whistling noice above 35mph. With the fairing higher than the mounting plate, that whistling noice is completely eliminated. For me, it was totally worth the $40 for the fairing.

I have had a Wilderness rack for about 4 years now, and it's been all over with all kinds of stuff on it, and is still in great shape. Very stout. It came via UPS in a long, slender box and was very easy to put together. The powder coating has held up great and I have re-painted it once since I had it off of the truck anyway. They make lots of attachments for them, but I ended up fabbing all of my own gear mounts for it. I have some info and pics on my website - but one thing I have not updated is the brackets and off-road lights that I have added to the front of the rack.

Yep.. It does not hang over the side at all, and it fits nicely behind my sunroof.. BTW, if the rack does not come with the Sucro crossars (I would be willing to bet it does) I have a new set I am not using... You can have them for shipping costs..

Great, thanks Lee- The one on eBay looks good.
Ohya- with the 60" length of yours, did you have to put on longer roof rack rails?
Or did your truck come with those long ones on it?
I've got the shorter ones 35" long, yours look about 55" ??
Thanks again for the heads up on eBay

Oh yea... I did that a long time ago, they are really off an Areostar van. They were simple to cheange, a little silicoln to seal the mismatched holes.. When I had to do all the rear work to the truck, I used large fender washers under the roof with nuts to bolt the tracks down.. They are a lot stronger now.. However. If you look, the crossbars are pretty close togather..
