Steering Stabilizer removal help

On my 1st gen I am replacing the steering stabilizer and can't get one bolt out. The end of the shock which mounts to the frame utilizes a bolt which is runs through the rubber bushing on the shock. I have the nut off and the bolt will turn freely, bu the problem is the rubber bushing is stuck to the bolt and it will not let me push it through no matter what. Any suggestions on freeing this up? Any type of rubber eating compound on the market?

Thanks,

Martin

If I am thinking of what your talking about could you cut a line in the rubber with like a hacksaw or a pneumatic grinder and then use a screwdriver or something to peel the rubber off the bolt.. just and idea

I have tried to remove as much of the rubber as I can reach. The problem it's seems to be stuck and no matter what I put at it doesn't budge. I think I might try some small c-clamps to help force it out. A hammer is getting no were.

go to VIP and get some battery recharger. its hydrochloric acid, 12 molar i think. strong stuff.. should eat away your rubber probably some of your frame too though.

here's an idea-try a small torch, soldering torch or a pencil torch that is butane powered, just enough to heat the bolt without melting the rubber completely..... get it nice and warm, and wack it with a big fine hammer.... 4lb mini sledge, and if you cant get a good swing in at the bolt, use a long extension as a punch :X
hope it helps

Tried the torch and the no movement. I have given up for today and may have to farm out.

Torch it

The torch is a great idea. I was going to have my friendly local 4x4 shop do my bushings (switch to urethane) and they said they'd have to BURN the bushings out. It must work...

Well the Dewalt took care of it today. Well it is time to install the new OME damper. Since I trashed the bolt I will be getting a grade 8 tommorow. Damn bolt!!
