Steering question

Since I have lifted my 4Runner the steering has been kind of twitchy, and the steering wheel is off center. I havent had it aligned yet, because I have SAW torsion bars to install. I was wondering if I need a new stabilizer. I have the torsion bars cranked up to about 14.75.

Any other ideas? This is on a 93 4Runner btw.

Mat

did you add the steering extension? Stabilizer will help but not fix the problem.

Downey HD springs in the rear, cranked the torsion bars up front. No body lift.

No other suspension mods. Stock tires, rims.

no steering extension needed then. I think that is what denk was saying. I know mine felt the same before I got an alignment after adding my SAW race runners, after the alignment was done, all was better. I adjusted my saws last weekend and the wierd steering is back. luckily I;m in the waranty period for the alignment so tomorrow after I get my panhard drop bracket welded up and painted it's off to 4WP to get my alignment redone, shhhh, don't tell them I messed with the suspension, haha. oh yea, doesn't yours have the automatic hubs or are they manuals? it could be the CV's although doubtful with your setup. an alignment (in my opinion) will probably help. just don't drive too long before getting the alignment or you'll fubar your tires.

keisur-

I switched to manual hubs before I lifted it. I agree, it probably just needs aligned.

Well, I got it aligned today and was told the lower ball joints should be replaced. The guy said there not shot yet, but they are 10 years old. It steers better, but still pulls to the left, told it was because of the balljoints. It goes down the road pretty straight though.

I figured I would replace the ball joints soon anyway, at least before next winter. I have replaced ball joints before, but on a 90 Suburban 4x4, my last vehicle. It was not a fun job.

I'd replace them soon (within the waranty for the alignement) because more than likely you'll need another one after the ball joints. this way you can get a free one. just don't wait too long, I screwed myself and waited one day past the waranty period for the 4wheelparts alignment and they turn me away, 1 ˟˟˟˟˟in' day!!!!! well, after I spent a couple thousand bucks there and I also referred a couple freinds there who spent just as much, they won't be getting anymore bidness from me. they sauck!!!!!
