sqeaking under car(LOUD!)

I have been having trouble with this sound underneath my car. It sounds almost the same as a squeaking belt, but thats not what it is. It seems to come from the transmission or transfer case. It only happens when im coasting. Sometimes it goes away depending on the weather. I thought it was gone, but it just came back. It is really anoying. Does anyone know what this might be? I need some help.

Have you greased the driveline and u joints, they might need a shot. By coasting you mean riding in neutral or not accelerating/braking?
If you give some basics about rig often time more people chime in

it happens mostly when I'm not on the gas. I also tried rolling in neutral and it did it then.

I have an annoying squeak im trying to track down. Mine happens anytime the vehicle is rolling. The noise appears to be coming from the drivers side kick panel area. The only thing I have been able to see that could make the noise is possibly the body mount bushing. I havent had the time to do much more than just guess at whats making the noise. I just turn up my radio at this point.

Any update on this issue?

I just am getting a similar squeak on my 99 SR5, manual tranny, 4X4. I also have a throw-out bearing squeak, and this is definately different. Wondering is this has been identified?

Thanks....Dean

Spare Tire

My spare came loose on the windlass and squeeked. I just tightened it up.

Spare is tight

Checked the spare, and it is tight. Also took it for a drive and it isn't making the squeaking now, seem like it is only when the truck is cold.....

This seems to be a common problem that always has the same symptoms, either it happens when your coasting, it's cold outside and sounds like its coming from the trans or driverside.

The answers in all cases is your rear driveshaft needs lubricating, especially the slide yoke.

Thanks

I'm about 500 miles from oil/lube so I'll take it in tomorrow and get it done a bit early. Kinda strange that it would appear so suddenly, but maybe it's been doing it for awhile, just not loud enough to notice. I've only had it for a couple of months, but other then this and the throw-out bearing noise, am really pleased with it. Hopefully this will take care of one, then a new clutch in a few months and I'm done....

Thanks again.....Dean

Yep. I had the same exact problem. Only occurs when you let off the gas right....especially around 40-50 mph? Sounds 10 times worse when after it rains? (mine did) Lube your driveshaft. It'll go away.

Yup, those are the same symptoms. I took it in for a oil/lube service this morning. Still seems to be doing it, but not near as bad. I went and bought a grease gun/grease/and service manual. I will go through and hit everything again tomorrow in case they missed something. Should it have gone away right away, or does it take a bit?

Thanks for the info.

The truck I just got is squeaking now, too. I'm not too worried about it, there's more important things I need to get done. I just changed the oil, I still need to flush the radiator, do the brakes, new tires, and new shocks.

It sucks having a bunch of things you want to do to your ride, but you have to take care of of the things that need to be done.

if you have a extra cab /extended look at the carrier bearing. I have had a few go out on 85. also the play at the transfer case were it meets up with the drive shaft the bearing can be going, if so you would most likely see oil leaking from it.
