Slipping transmission
GOT A 97 4RUNNER automatic 2WD That barely pulls in 2nd and drive but 1st and reverse are fine, any ideas as to what it could be? has the correct amount of fluid in it but no telling when the last time it had been changed though

A couple questions.......is the oil red or is it dark and full of shiny glittering metal? I assume you are getting no codes....no flashing engine light on the dash?
And also take a look at your radiator water.....does it appear to have transmission oil in it?

Anti freeze looks good and transmission fluid is a little dark but still red and not metal on dipstick, it's weird I got in it today to move it out of the way and it took 2nd and drive fine but I hadn't tried driving it down the road to see how it did. I got it with a Tacoma I bought and just got it running

Heck......why not change out the shift solenoids located behind the transmission pan and see if that fixes it.. They are so easy to swap out. Probably the same kit shown here https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/t.../#post52350687
