Shaky steering wheel

This is very weird, when im driving on the free way, i get a steer wheel shake in a certain speed range of about 62-72mph. Its just fine at all other ranges. I would think if the tires are out of balance it would shake all the time and not at a certain point. I dont think this has anything to do with it but i do have warped rotor not badly but enough to feel the brake pulsing rather then smooth. Anyone got any ideas on the shaky steering wheel?

Balance issues usually show up in a speed range - that looks somewhat like your issue.

I had the same shake on my 98 whenever I go above 60. I was afraid to drive faster than 70 because of the shakes. From the consensus on this forum, I had the shop replaced my steering rack bushing. That was almost two years ago. I was shocked that a few pieces of worned out rubber could cause that. I take my truck to 90s sometimes and it's smooth sailing. You should try replacing the steering rack bushing first because parts cost you less than $20 and if you can do it yourself, that's even better.

If you want to do it yourself, there is a good writeup at :

btw, I got the steering rack bushing kit from energy suspension.

I'm actually about to do mine. Did you just go to the energy suspension website to get them? Their site doesn't seem to user-friendly...

Yea, I have to do mine as well. I have been on the energy suspension website and you are right, NOT user friendly as well. Very difficult to navigate through the parts list and what not. I was going to go with www.wheelersoffroad.com steering rack bushings. It's a very good price as well.

When you have your alignment checked the next time see if your tie rod ends have excessive play.
