Question Running board bolts (which is which?)

I'm going to be shipping my running boards off in the near future and am trying to round everything up. Like an idiot, I seemed to have layed some additional nuts and bolts on the boards and now I can't remember what is used to mount the things.

As I recall, I think there are 7 bolts per board. Is that right? I believe there are 6 of a kind and 1 screw. Am I still on the right track?

I have a number of short, silver bolt/nut/washer combos and then I have some black screws in the batch, I believe.

So, can any of you confirm and describe what I should be looking for and describe the bolts? It would be very much appreciated.

It's been over a year since I first removed them and am clueless at this point. I never thought I'd sell them, but I really don't have a reason for there use, EVER again!

Thanks

Darren,

For each side of the running board there are:

5 nuts/bolt combo
1 nut (Mertztr is a good example of a nut)

The reason for the single nut is that on each side of the 4runner, there is one hanger with a permanent bolt located on the hanger. This allows you to mount the rearmost arm of the running board on the hanger while you mount and secure the other arms with the nut/bolt combos.

Are you giving him the end caps? If so, that might explain the black screws.

Bob

Darren,

Bob's corny humor aside , I can confirm his numbers: 5 bolts and a nut.

Ha! Tommy will love to hear that (again)!

I think I remember that single nut deal now that you mention it. Or maybe it's actually a single bolt as the nut is a fixed onto the frame?

The end caps? I'm shipping him my running boards. The full meal deal. If that means including the end caps, then yes! If I'm thinking of the same thing, then I didn't know those could be removed. I think I know what you're talking about though.

Thanks

Wow! Quick Draw McGraw (AKA mertztr)!

Darren,

I'm pretty sure its a fixed bolt coming out of the rear-most hanger on the 4runner. If not, I'm sure Mertztr will correct me w/ pictures.

The end caps will depend on what kind of fender trim you have. For the SR5 textured kind, the end cap on the front is MUCH different than the end caps (eer...front caps...wahtever) on a 4runner w/ the thin silver kind. The thin silver kind that I'm referring to is the kind that Christian (96 4Runner) painted black just recently.

Alright. Yeah, that's what I thought. No issues there.

Actually, that fixed bolt is in the front mount.

I checked my write-up (available today only, for just one low payment of $9.99!!) in the tech section - don't have a pic of that stud, but I'm 99% sure it was in the front.

yes I can confirm that, as I just took my running boards off a month ago. I kept on prying them because I didn't know why they weren't coming off, thought I still had a screw on somewhere, but nope, it was the hanger nail thingy
