rubbing issue! PICS

Hey, I have 265/75-16 BFG all-terrains on stock suspension on my 2000 2WD 4Runner...recently i got new wheels which are 16x8's and the rubbing issue has gotten worse. There is a little like pinch weld piece behind the plastic wheel well material that i had already trimmed for the tires and when i pull into a driveway or parking lot, it takes out little chunks of my tire and is like slicing through the tread.

So my question is if you guys think it will be okay to grind/cut that piece of metal off and out of the way?? Here is a picture..thanks in advance

If it still rubs after you've pounded the metal flat (I don't think it will rub afterwards) and you do not want a lift, your only option is to go back to a stock tire size.

I will bend it flat and see what happens...it rubs just a little bit so i think bending it back will do the job. Thanks for the quick responses

Whatever you do make sure to get an anti-rust coating on that area.

Bend it over is the easiest way.

If u cut it will.

1. open a big gap where it was pinch welded together and then rust like hell.
2. weaken the point where it was spot welded together.

unless your cutting it out and welding in new metal it's much easier.

Get a spray can of undercoating and spray that on the area. It will hold up better than just black spray paint.

Also, take it in for an alignment if it still rubs and have them move that side forward a bit.

i had the same problem when i went from the stock 28x8x15, that came on my truck, to 32x11.5x15. i just cut off the plastic and hammered the crap out of that metal piece. i still rub a little, but only when hitting a big bump or drop when my wheels are fully turned. if all else fails, get fender flares, it trim the fenders with a sawzall

Since you went to an aftermarket wheel (you sold me your OEM wheels) you've changed the backspacing. The wheel your running probably has less backspacing, which increases the offset, resulting in the increased rubbing.
