Replacing spark plugs, clean throttle body while im at it????
So i bought a set of spark NGK spark plugs today for my 3rd gen. its 1999, and i dont remmeber the last time i changed my plugs. this is the link i found how to do it, if u guys got any other write ups please post, its my first time doing it
http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-ge...ark-plugs.html
however, when i was looking at the pictures, i noticed that i would be taking the big pipe thing (tell me what its called plz) that connects to the throttle body to clean.
i was wondering if there was a write up on how to clean it? i have a can of carb cleaner and was wondering if i should use it. It will also be my first time. what can i touch/clean, what do i need to stay away from. I hear people talking about butterfly, what is that? just any info would be nice
any tips for doing this?
thanks!

Here is my write up, a little different because I actually removed the throttle body to clean it.

Several companies make thottle body cleaner. I was having an issue with my engine and ended up replacing the plugs and wires. also the O'Reilly/Schucks counter help recommended a thottle body cleaner they carried which came in a blue can, can't recall the name but I will see if I can find it for you, but the instructions for use were right on the can. Basically the instructions for performing the cleaning was to remove the intake tube to the throttle body with the engine running, spray the cleaner directly into the butterfly of the throttle for 10 seconds while operating the butterfly open-shut, open-shut the whole time you were spraying, then waiting 60 seconds then repeating the process again. You kept doing this until the can is empty. Only issue I ended up having is my 4runner would not stay running when I removed the intake pipe to the throlttle body. You can do it if the vehicle will not run with the intake pipe removed, but the directions are a bit different in this case, you operate the butterfly the same way for 10 seconds then you let it sit for 60 seconds then run the engine for 60 seconds and repeat the process until the can was empty. I found another way around it, I just pulled the throttle body intake pipe back enough to get the spray can applicator hose inside the opening so the engine would continue to run so I was able to complete the procedure. Seemed to help. Good luck

I think that it is just better to take a little bit more time and take the throttle body off the truck to clean it. Then you don't have to worry about it "not running right" when you start it up after cleaning it on the truck. I didn't have that issue. It was well worth the extra time to make sure that I got everything, including taking off the restrictive throttle body to intake manifold metal gasket. I made my own out of ultra copper. All in all, I am glad I did it the way I did. Just my 2 cents.
