Replacing a Shattered Rear Window

Hey ya'll, so it figures, I just got the misfire and O2 sensor fixed on my truck, and today I managed to shatter the rear cargo window. A bunch of guys and myself were out skeet shootin today, and when we were leaving, one of my friends decided to root in the field a little, and somehow a rock managed to launch out and hit my rear window. Its the very back, passenger side window, not the rear window. Right now, my window is still in place, but its completely shattered.

Anyways, I was wondering if anybody has ever had to replace this window and if so, how much do they usually run? I have comprehensive coverage, but my insurance already replaced my front windshield over the summer, suprisingly free of charge, so I dont know how thrilled they will be about this one. Hopefully, at worst, my bud and I will have to cover only the deductible, but I was wondering if I should even bother with insurance or just deal with the whole thing myself.

I know this is probably stupid, but considering that we're poor college students, we are looking for the cheapest way to do this, and I am just curious now as to the cost before I try and deal with insurance on Monday.

Thanks ya'll.

the right rear cargo window will have the diversity antenna in it, if its a v6 (i believe, look and see if there is a wire attached to the glass, looks like a defroster, but its a second antenna)

it will be more than the left (presumably) or you could leave the antenna off (if they come that way) and not worry about it, depending on how much the cost difference is

as for going thru your insurance, call a glass guy and see how much they want, vs what your deductable.

Thanks for the info everybody. I definitely didnt even think about the antenna being in that window, but it is. Unfortunately, I am at college out in Farmville, VA, which if ya cant tell by the name, its in the middle of nowhere, so my options are limited. I know of one glass shop and there is a Toyota dealership here, but if I have to, I will make the drive back to Richmond. Anyways I will keep yall updated as to what I can find with quotes and such. Thanks again for the help and ya'll take care.

All right ya'll, I figured I would give an update on my window. It definitely looks like insurance will be handling this one. I thought it would be like $300 max, but I was way off. All the quotes I have gotten have been anywhere from the $600-$650 range. Griffeycom, I checked out that website and the prices there looked good, but then I had to figure in the fact that I would still have to pay for labor and tinting and such, so unfortunately this is the route I have to take. I have a huge chem test tomorrow, and my window is getting fixed on Weds., but if I get a chance, I will try and post up some before and after shots. This is a mistake I definitely dont wanna make again. Thanks for the input everybody.

Check the tech section, I outlined how I fixed my 93. It's not hard at all and I got my window from a toyota salvage shop for like $75 or something.

Steve, nice work on that repair and the write up. I might would be up for that, but I dont know if I trust myself, plus, being at college, I dont really have the tools or a place to do it. If I were back at home, though, that would definitely be an idea because it would be a lot cheaper of an alternative. Thanks for the suggestion though, I wish I could manage to do it.
