replacing engine
I'm about to put an 88 3.0, auto tanny/transfer case in my 91 4runner. Is there any problems that I may run into? Also about how much downtime can I expect from this? It has 79k on it runs beautifully and only set me back about $900. Oh yeah I will probrably do the work my self.

How much DT depends on your mechanical ability, 2 days and you should have it! Like I said, it depends on your mechanical ability, tools...! Yeah, about 2 days for the average guy! If the 3.0 is already out of the donor vehicle, 2 - 3 days! Good Luck! If you need advice on the 3.0, PM me, I spent 6 yrs working on these beauts!

Total downtime for an engine swap about 5-7 hours depending on experience. I can take a motor out of one vechicle and swap it into another vehicle in about 4 hrs.

Another rule is you can only put in an engine that was offered that year, so if you had a 88 22re you can put in a 22ret or 3.0.

the studs where the front exhaust pipe bolts to drivers side exhaust manifold can be a real biyatch. around here they are usually siezed and break. best to have a couple extra ones around if the pipe hasn't been off in years..
