Question Remote Starter on a 1st Gen?

Has anyone ever installed a remote starter on their 1st Gen Pickup? My new security system has an "Opt" button which when pressed pulses a negative signal through one of the extra wires, which in turn could be used to open a trunk, window, or as remote starter - so they say. I was just wondering how hard it would be to do this? I'll probably just have it control some auxilary lights or maybe the horn. (By the way, which is now a FIAMM Freeway Blaster Horn. ) Thanks for any help.

Remote start is a waste IMO on any vehicle, especially a 1st gen, and especially mine, which is a manual. Only reason to use it would be to warm up the car ahead of time and that is a 10 second walk into the garage.

Remote start is an unnecessary, unneeded luxury.

In my case it would only be for show. Just something my 86 Pickup has that my friends 05 Mustang doesn't, type of thing. With having my truck parked outside every morning, it might be nice to start it up without stepping outside into the cold, but I leave it in 1st anyway.

They usually don't advise manual trannys to use remote start, for obvious reasons. Its useful for us people that live in a place thats colder than 60 and for those of us that HAVE insulation and keep our rigs outdoors

What is it? I thought all the early model pickups were 1st Gens. Is it 2nd?

well im not sure how far back toyota 2wd pickups go, but the 84-88 4x4's that share the same body style are 2nd gen trucks, and the 84-89 runners are 1st gen.

just call it a 2nd gen because all the 2nd gen parts work on it.

If it is a truck than it is 2nd Gen if it is a 4runner it is 1st gen.
The trucks had a different body style before yours where as the 4 runner it was there 1st body style.

Even if it did pulse the starter how would it turn the ignition on? I would just hook it up to some under body stobe or somthing.
