I'm a little paranoid when it comes to the rear window motor. So I'm not sure if I should worry about this or not. While going down I get 2 boing noises. Is this normal? It's hard to describe what it sounds like. If you're not paying attention you probably wouldn't even notice it. I can only picture like a thin metal rod getting sprung. If I can prevent a failure, I'd rather do that than perform an emergency repair.

 

it sounds like if you rarely open a window, it's like breaking the dirt seal when it opens for the 1st time in a long time. But to be safe, i'd take off the rear panel to make sure nothing is broke.

 

Mine made a clunk or two when I would roll it down, but I started having the same trouble that others have had where the window will roll down but not up so I just disabled the rear window feature. I hardly ever used it anyway and I'd rather not have it fail when it's raining or when I have stuff in the back that I don't want stolen.

 

ahhh man, don't tell me that! I love my rear window, use it all the time to get the heat out.

 

Sounds to me the cable for the regulator may be binding and usually in my experiences that it's on its way out by snapping.

 

Mine's been making that noise since day 1 with no problems other than that. It works fine. If it ain't broke, I ain't fixing it.

It's been doing that for about two years now. I use my rear window all the time save for winter. I worry.

 

IDK I'm just going from GM experience. When I diagnose a window motor I like to go ahead and order the regulator too if it's separate. I've found what happens is the cable in the regulator gets frayed and the popping noise is the frayed or kinked cable trying to slide back into the winds of the regulator itself. Eventually the cable over time gets more and more cut or frayed until it snaps (reason being why I like to replace regulator/motor together).

Your best bet is if you are somewhat mechanically inclined to just go ahead and take the panel off and using a mirror and flash light to find where the noise is coming from. Maybe it's just binding on a clip or something loose inside the tracks. I have on rare occasions found one side of the regulator to glass pincers are broken causing the glass to tilt slightly and dragging.
