Recently had muffler shop install new muffler (what a crappy muffler they install...., I should have brought them my own choice of muffler.. anyway....)

After the installation, it seems a little sagging and I found that that "rubber(-ish) or polyurethan something exhaust/muffler hanger seems overally stretched. Do those rubber hangers "deteriorate" over time?

So, searched for a new rubber hangers, I found somewhat polarized prices. Please check the following two parts?

What is so special about the ebay one? What costs them 3~5 times or so more than the ones in Rock auto? The ebay one is claimed to be "80% stiffer" than OEM ones..... is that it?

Have you ever used the ones in ebay?

The ebay hangers are polyurethane as opposed to rubber, and will be stiffer.
I have never used the polyurethane bushings for my muffler, though I do have them on my swaybar and endlinks. I personally wouldnt bother with poly bushings for my exhaust system.

I would bet you could go to the local parts store and find the poly ones cheaper then the racing shop sells them for I know when I had to replace my sway bar link rubbers I went to AUTOZONE and payed less for the polys then TOYOTA wanted for the stock rubber one's.

 

They get streched and worn, but I have yet to see a rubber hanger rip or tear. I'm sure it happens though.

I have had several rubber ones tear. However, they were all on vehicles that had seen more than their share of mud, salt and being bashed on things so it was not surprising. That said, I would just get the rubber ones.

By the way, it is interesting that I could not find any such rubber hanger in local part store. (Murray etc)... I shall check others today (even Walmart...)
